Right-handed bat

NYChez
After watching Manny Pina pinch hit with the bases loaded of a 2-0 game with the division lead on the line, could Stearns acquire a cheap, non-playoff eligible bat to get us through the last 16 games? Perhaps a Victor Martinez-type?

Not sure how many feasible trade options are currently out there, but maybe A.J. Ellis?

Have I mentioned how much I would have liked for the Brewers to have acquired Wilson Ramos (and I wish I hadn’t just double checked his stats since joining the Phillies, yes a small sample size).

Not just “at Night” anymore.

They have enough RH bats, but they're simply aren't the quality they have from the left side. When teams have good lefties both in their rotation and their pen, they can keep the LH hitters on ice basically the entire game. Not sure there's anyone they could get who'd be better Hunter Pence looks done. Reynolds maybe.

Perez is a good bench RH bat. In many games started by a righty you'll have Schoop too. Saladino has hit well since his call up. Even Broxton is capable of jacking one at the right time, and he's done it since he's been back up. This is baseball, a game of failure, you can't expect a guy to get a hit every time. Their P made great pitches and did his job perfectly, tip the cap and move on. If I remember correctly, Saladino hit a bullet right to 3B last night in his PH. Bobbled by Bote but still got him

Basically, the only possibility would be to cut Wilkerson to free up a 40 man spot (I don't see them cutting someone on the active roster of 36).

It's possible they don't plan to retain him later, but doubt they want to pull that trigger now (what if a starter gets an injury and is out next season).

I’m pretty sure all bats are playoff eligible. Right-handed and left-handed bats both work well, but some say the maple ones break too easily.

Birch is the one that breaks like a wafer cookie.

I like balsa wood. It's light so I can swing faster, which makes up for the force otherwise lost on impact.

I found this on Yahoo Answers, this may be you...and your real trade-off reason.

"Balsa wood bats are cheap, but I wouldn't recommend them.

The only good thing about them is, if you strike out (and hopefully that won't happen), you can just snap the bat in two like it's nothing, and crumble it into a million pieces which impresses the chicks. Of course, they'll be less impressed with the fact that you struck out, so it's a trade off."

There is NO WAY, no way Stearns should bring either Schoop or Moustakas back. Use that $10mil+ to get a higher OBP player and not only that, but preferably RH. Moustakas isn't really needed that much. I don't hate him, but I don't like him that much. We already have Shaw and Yelich as strong LHP.

Yasmani Grandal is a really solid option. He has typically put forward solid OBP skills. His downside is the fact he hits RHP better than LHP (he is a switch hitter)...would prefer someone who really mashes lefties.

DJ LaMahieu is a really solid option. He had a .900 OPS vs. LHP this year. He was terrible vs. RHP though and who knows how he would fair outside of Colorado.

Josh Donaldson would be a stellar toarget in my opinion (though older). He hits LHP well and hold his own vs. RHP.

Marwin Gonzalez hits both pretty evenly (switch hitter)...also another good option and he is versatile.

I want an impact bat...I think Grandal and Donaldson give us the best chance at that. I also think Santana needs to get a better chance next year. If the price is too high on Donaldson I wouldn't mind Gonzalez. Not sold we should or will get a new starting catcher.

Not sure what is out there via trade, but I want Goldy badly...but that's a hefty price to pay and I doubt we do it.

Santana will do.

Yep. Keston will be lucky to see Milwaukee at all next year I think. He really tailed off in AA the last month. I wonder if the grind just got to him?

Disagree, Keston I think is virtually certain to be a summer callup unless he really struggles. He is tearing up the Arizona Fall League right now.

We could use his bat in the lineup sooner rather than later and I think it'll play up just fine at this level for his position. Woild you like to see video game numbers, of course, but you have to look at Southern League numbers differently than the PCL. I would heavily bet that he'll have better numbers in San Antonio next season than he did in Biloxi.

That post is from Sept. 18, when he was struggling mightily. Now I think his arrival depends a lot on what the team does at 2B this offseason. He does have the ability to be a difference maker in the future, but I still think handing the 2B job on a title contender to an unproven rookie is asking for trouble.
