2018-09-11: Brewers (Chacín) at Cubs (Quintana) 7:05 PM CDT [Brewers lose, 3-0]

Eye Black
I hate Quintana. I think a lot of that is because the Brewers were yet again the bridesmaid when it comes to acquiring a TOR pitcher. Seems like they have been in on every one, but haven't been able to close the deal. I tell ya, Hiura better be the real deal, because if he isn't, they've let a lot of top pitcher skip off to other teams because they are banking on him.

In what world is quintana a top of the rotation arm? He has had an era of 3.74 and 4ish with the cubs

We are the only team he is tor against

According to the package the Cubs gave up, he's TOR LOL

They have? News to me.

Quintana has killed us but has like a 4.5 ERA facing everyone else and Cubs gave up what looks like a for sure star player. They haven't missed on much. I don't think they're kicking themselves too badly on Darvish either.

They were rumored to be in on Sonny Gray last year too. That hasn't exactly worked out for the Yankees.

It's the IGT. I'm overreacting.

haha. Yea Cobb, Lynn haven't been too much to lose sleep over either. Arrieta has been fine but is he worth that money at that age? Meanwhile Chacin and Miley are better than all them for like 10 mil total

I know Kratz has been hitting well and all so this isn't a complaint but it pops in my head times like now due to his so so blocking skills. But have they really said why he's playing so much more than Pina? lingering effects from that HBP to the face? Pina was hitting the wall great as well

Pinas OPS was over 900 in August and Kratz was under 700. So yeah it’s time to stop alternating and Play Pina especially with all the off days. That is unless pinas got something else. Because the defense is in his favor too

Exactly. And it's not even a 50/50 lately. More like Kratz 2/3. I assume something is up with Pina but I haven't seen any explanation

CC loves gritty veterans. Exhibit A: Sogard, Eric

Yep, just a bummer to see one of those guys get the upper hand on us. When it Quintana gonna start pitching like the average pitcher he is against everyone else?

I'm assuming a lot there. But yeah, Brewers linked to every top pitcher that has been moved the last two seasons. That is pretty much confirmed.

Most of the pitchers we have been linked to have completely sucked since being moved. Meanwhile we grab Chacin and Miley and and are right in the thick of it.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Seeing Kratz in there most days is definitely odd. The guy isn't crap but he's a backup catcher, for sure. Pina has had a very nice second half and for him to not be in there at least 75% of the time you'd have to assume something is up with his health.

Random question could a team while playing on the raid start say Granderson at catcher hitting first and then just substitute him in the bottom of the inning. Sort of like a lead off pinch hitter just so our catchers have one less at bat

So if we had gotten him he'd be a complete disaster because he wouldn't have us to pitch against?

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

Makes you wonder what Johnson could do with a guy with more talent, though.

At the price all these guys you want? No thanks. Stay the course.

Edit: especially with the wave of talented arms coming through. Stay the course.

Yes. This idea used to be floated more around starting P though and when we had Sheets who couldn't hit a lick. Moves the P spot down one

I get not wanting to burn a guy when you have a short bench all year but when the bench is so deep why not do it.

My point exactly. I sure hope Nelson can come back at close to 2017 level next year. What Johnson has been able to cobble together rotation-wise this year is nothing short of miraculous.

We also need to draw a line in the sand on how much we're going to continue to raid our farm. I understand the moves we've made but acquiring a talent the level that people want, IF it can even be done which is a big if, will put our farm right at the bottom of the league. Not a good place to be as we started finding out 3 or 4 years ago. At some point we've got to give some of these guys shots to be here for 6-7 years.

If Jimmy is good to go we've got him with Chacin, Burnes, Anderson, and Davies next year, with Peralta and Woodruff in reserve, and that's only if guys like Miley and Gonzalez aren't back.

This year was kind of a transitional year in the rotation with the Nelson injury. Next year we should be in better shape.

Starting to get late. Really blew a big chance in the 5th.

Still 3 innings left. Hopefully we can at least make Quintana work a bit next inning so we get their bullpen for 2 innings. We'll surely see their primo guys...definitely Strop for an inning, but better chance against them than Quintana. That's what we have to hope for.
