2018-09-10: Brewers (Miley) at Cubs (Lester) 7:05 PM CDT [Brewers win, 3-2; Hader dominates over 2 IP, & JJ slams the door]

Eye Black
Cardinals with a big comeback win against the Pirates tonight. Dodgers lost to the Reds, though, and Arizona is in the process of getting killed by Colorado. Dodgers are getting pretty close to being done methinks.

Arizona is in worse shape in my opinion. If they go on to lose tonight, and they will, they are six back of the Brewers in the loss column. LA is only four back.

Looking more likely every day that both wild card teams come out of the Central.

Don't tell that to Harold Reynolds. Hes convinced Cubs win central and both wild cards come from the west.

I think the Dodgers crush the Cards and eventually win the West with Colorado visiting either Milwaukee or Chicago for the Wild Card game. I think Arizona is on the outside looking in and I don't think the Cardinals can sustain. The Cards are only up two in the loss column over the Dodgers.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

I hope you're right. I'm ready for the Cardinals to just go away. Of course, it would be pretty poetic to see the Dodgers miss the playoffs after their big spending and big trades this year.

If only this offense would wake up...I feel like we have won a lot of games offensively recently on smoke and mirrors. If the offense can start scoring runs, we will be lethal!

Win is a win regardless though!

So nice to win that fist game of the series!

The offense has been fine, they just have struggled to get the big hit other than the Schoop grand slam. If they keep producing the way they have the last few weeks and just don't get as much bad luck with RISP they will score plenty. That is just part of what makes MLB so streaky.

I could definitely see the MLB allowing them to change Wednesday game to an afternoon start time. Madden was able to convince someone to postpone a game last season against the Brewers due to weather and they never saw a drop of rain.

ESPN has that game so it’s staying at 7

Miley got out of some tough jams tonight and did a good job holding the Cubs to 2 runs. Of course Schoop made a great play to get Rizzo out at 1st. They could have really opened it up in the 5th. The Bullpen was great tonight and Hader was nasty with 6 K’s.

This has to be the most frustrating part of talking baseball with people who don't really understand the game. I'm definitely NOT talking about anyone on here, but rather thinking about people I work with. I try explaining that Braun's hit the ball really well this year and all I hear is how much he sucks. I try not to get too far in the weeds with the advanced metrics, but the guy is hitting the ball as hard as Yelich(close anyway) yet his luck has been awful(.277 BABIP vs Yelich who has had great luck with a .369 BABIP).

Braun's hit the ball hard as often as just about anytime in his MLB career. He's just gotten incredibly unlucky results. But you have so many BA/HR/RBI fans who don't care about anything else you can't convince them...we need Braun's bat in the lineup.

I don't think you can mess with the type of success you've gotten from Hader...he's changed the way the Brewers play. But I'm still curious what he could do as a starter. He's only been a reliever for a year and a half....but man, what a year and a half it's been.

This year has been a blast and I'm not looking past it, but man, a rotation with Nelson, Burnes, Chacin, maybe a resurgent Chase(Peralta, Davies, Woodruff..etc...etc..) with all the young arms we have in the pen...we could have a dominant staff without having the 'Stros like 1-5 and protect the young arms and their innings.

At this point in Hader’s career he’s definitely a bullpen guy. If he can add a 3rd pitch to his repertoire he could be a successful starter, but with only 2 pitches batters would start having success against him in their 2nd and 3rd AB’s in later innings.
