NL MVP Race

nate82

I'd honestly have Yelich & Cain in the one two spot on my ballot & I think a couple two tree voters will do the same to prove this isn't a total homer take.

The currency of baseball are outs. By all available measures, as imperfect as they may be, Cain has saved more runs on defense than Baez & there's no arguing he has made far less at the plate.

smh...

I always liked Frank Thomas, but man, I'm listening to him make his award picks and he's just awful.

NL ROY: Acuna (which is cool) because the Braves are in the playoffs (wat)

NL CY: Scherzer because he's been the best pitcher for the last 5 years and deGrom only has 10 wins.

NL MVP: Baez because of his "body of work" throughout the entire year (Yelich has only had a hot second half, apparently). Also, pre-All Star break was all about Shaw and Aguilar for the Brewers (and he got Aguilar's first name wrong, though I can't remember what he said).

Thomas works for "the man (media)." The man (media) wants a big market player to win it, so Thomas voted for that big market player to please the man (media).

Nelson Aguilar.

Maybe these pundits on tv keep voicing Baez because, just how many Brewer games televised nationally? This vs. The Cubs? It's like a West Coast team to the East coast fans.

just don't get how Yelich can lose with this stretch.

Historically speaking this just hasn't been the case. The MVP doesn't tend to just favor big market teams. Last year someone on the Marlins won, the year before someone on the Angels (west coast), the year before that a canadian, the year before that west coast, the year before that Pittsburgh etc. They certainly don't always get it right but storylines dictate things more than fanbase. Yelich is winning the storyline awards this year, especially if he manages the triple crown tomorrow.

I mean the dude might actually win the triple crown. It's over.

Game 163 counts for that right?

So not only would he have an extra game, but snatch the RBI lead from Baéz, in person ... lol

Yeah, game 163 stats count and you get the expanded roster because they are not considered playoff games. The Wild Card game is very clearly a playoff game and none of that counts.

What I mean is #1 or #2. Yelich's competition this year is by a player who's been on National TV, that spotlight skewering a voter. Stanton for Miami, lets be real, he's this generation of Barry Bonds/Mark Mcquire before that season even started. Yelich isn't at that level. Not until this moment and beyond. Toodistracted to finish this thought more.

Fun fact!

If Khris Davis finishes the year 2 for 13 he will end up with a .247 BA for the fourth consecutive year. Wonder how often someone has had the same BA in four consecutive years?

This is VERY much in play today. A's should sit him :)

"Khris Davis watch: still at .247 with one game to go. He needs an 0-for-1, 0-for-2, 1-for-4, or 1-for-5 to finish at .247 for the 4th consecutive season. He's had one of those lines in 29.5% of his non-pinch-hit games since the .247 streak started in 2015."
