It's funny how the team starting to hit better coincided with putting Cain back in the leadoff spot on a regular basis. I have no idea why they messed around with Thames and Yelich in that spot for so long. Cain is nearly perfect in that role.

He went from averaging about 30 walks a year, to 54 walks last year, to 65 this year! Insane change and the season isn't even close to over.

I wish that the patience of Cain would rub off on a few of our players. What a great signing he has turned out to being. Just a fun player to have overall.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Hot take: The order is fine in general. Aguilar will have cold spells. Braun will have cold spells. Cain is good in the leadoff spot but the offense has been good because we made trades to make it deeper. I'm fine with what they go with as long as it gets good hitters the most ABs. If they think against certain matchups that Yelich should bat leadoff - fine. Aguilar will get it going again, Braun may go cold again, etc.

I'm gonna guess:

Cain, Yelich, Aguilar, Braun, Moustakas, Schoop, Arcia, Pina, Chacin

I think this is about right. Maybe CC swaps Schoop and Moustakas. CC probably does swap Arcia and Pina. I personally would like to see Aguilar dropped in the order as he is simply not hitting well...and he really hasn't been since the break. I just don't see that happening.

Last 4 games our guys have walked 4, 11, 4 and 9 times.

So thats 28 walks.....Cain has 4 of them.......so the other guys are doing their part...at least of late.

Quintana has pitched amazing against us and Chacin has had two stellar starts vs. the Cubs this year. Great matchup, screams pitchers duel, 7-5 Cubs.

Half predicting a loss because too much excitement asking for disappointment dreaming of a sweep.

The cubs pitching seems to be in a complete state of meltdown. If we hit Quintana hard things could get uglier than last night. That bullpen is atrocious. I would love to play these guys first round if both teams get in.

Braun has sat frequently during the season the day before an off day, but sitting today wouldn’t make too much sense to me. There are 22 games left and the game today is the difference between 2 back or 4 back. That big of a swing is truly a make or break on the rest of the season. It has to be all hands on deck at some point and this game needs to be the start of it. This is a HUGE game.

Prior to yesterday: 4, 1, 1, 2, 4, 10*, 1, 4, 0, 6, 2, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 0, 0, 4, 7, 3, 9, 2, 9, 0, 1

Man, I hope our pitching has a similar meltdown! That is not bad at all. Mind you this does not take into consideration errors. I am just pulling what they gave up.

*was second game of a DH.

Right. Braun/Aguilar basically have a week to play most days with an off day tomorrow and at the end of this stretch of LHP. Including today, there are 5 lefties in the next 7 games. After that, a ton of RHP. So Braun and Aguilar should play most of those and then might honestly start 50-60% of the games down the stretch.

I think you might be underestimating how much they play down the stretch. If Thames wasn't in a funk, that might be closer to true. I can't see Granderson starting more than 1-2 games a week. Santana and Broxton will virtually never start. I'll be furious if Perez starts in the outfield in September. Not many other options.

Wasn't part of the idea behind giving Braun days off throughout the season so that he could be healthy (and rested) for the stretch run? He needs to be in the lineup today IMO. With the scheduled off days every week, unless someone is hurt, there's no reason for days off. We need the best players out there as much as possible.
