2018 Green Bay Packers Season Thread: 6-9-1: Mike McCarthy Fired, Philbin Interim HC

King's never going to be a contributor. A corner that can't run without pulling a muscle isn't worth a whole lot. So that means more Davon House, who should not even be on an NFL roster.

That seems harsh. King is a guy that battled injury in college, missing games every year except his senior year. I think I'm willing to give the guy a little more than one season and two games before calling him a bust, though.

I can't imagine Josh Gordon in Green Bay. He appeared pretty bored with the city of Cleveland. I can only imagine what he'd think if he lived in the town of Green Bay during the season! New England is probably the perfect place for him. Belichek will keep him in his place or cut him if he doesn't. I totally expect a Randy Moss-esque renaissance from Gordon the rest of the season.

I don't think he's a bust, as their defense immediately became worse when he left the field and the Vikings went right after House and Williams matching up with Diggs. Williams may still have some vet value but he cannot run with a guy like Diggs. King can and they knew it. Unfortunately he can't stay healthy.

I am sure there are plenty of drugs on the Green Bay streets to keep him happy.

I heard on the radio McCarthy say something like they didn’t respond well to the King injury on Sunday. I have a feeling wel’ll see Josh Jackson before House.

It just seems strange. Put up with him through god knows how many relapses, then suddenly cut ties because he's late to a meeting. The new regime must not want to fool around. I'd guess they probably know he's using again. Weird situation.

It was more than being late for a meeting. I would think at some point you feel you just can’t count on a guy and it’s not a good message on a rebuilding team to not have some accountability.

The exact same criticism was made of Casey Heyward, to the point we let him walk out the door as a free agent only to turn into a superstar.

Link text pretty much speaks for itself.

A friendly-fire type injury could have happened from just about any player...really hard to take coming from the same guy (Brice) who's poor play in the secondary resulted in the opposition hitting another deep ball.

Meh, I take that with a grain of salt. Look at the edge rushers for LAC. They are arguably the best pair in the NFL. Packers have had nothing remotely close to that. Fans have brought Heyward up a lot the past couple seasons, but he would never have become that player in GB.

So sick of seeing the "OMG, we shouldn't have let Jordy go!!!" narrative. Seeing it a lot again this week with Cobb and Allison hurt. Jordy would be doing next to nothing to help this team right now. Graham and Allison can perform the "slow possession receiver" role just fine. I want to see what Valdes-Scantling and Moore can do with an increase in reps. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kumerow show up at midseason as well.

Article today in JSOnline that cutting Nelson was the right move. You had to know people were going to fill their pants after Jordy's first decent game of the year.

I’m a big Jordy fan and I was OK with the move. That being said, I still wish he were on the roster right now instead of Cobb.

I disagree. Cobb still has some juice. We're probably 1-2-1 at this point if that were the decision because we don't beat the Bears without Cobb.

We made the right call.

My main criticism of cutting Jordy instead of Cobb is that we had a replacement for Cobb in Montgomery. Yeah I get that his numbers sucked last year and he's not in his prime anymore but he was perfectly fine when Rodgers was playing. I think Adams/Jordy/Allison/Montgomery is better than Adams/Cobb/Allison/some combination of Montgomery and a mid to late round rookie receiver.

Rodgers might want to start trusting those young WRs. They are talented.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

That sure sounded like an exciting win...but it was the 1-4 49ers, they were at home, gave up 30 points, and needed Rodgers being insane down the stretch just to edge past for the W.

That is pretty sad in the grand scheme when you have dreams of a Super Bowl.

It was proof that there are maybe 2-3 really good teams in the NFL, and 2-3 really bad teams, and then just a bunch of mediocrity in the middle. What I saw last night was two teams with roughly the same level of talent, except for at one position - QB. That kid for the 49ers did his best to keep it interesting, though.

Defense had another horrible first half and then settled in during the second half. It should would be great to figure out how to play 4 quarters.
