2018-09-01: Brewers (Anderson) at Nationals (Strasburg) 6:05 PM CDT [Brewers lose, 5-4 -- Lead Blown in 8th Inning After Two Hour Rain Delay]

Eye Black
I seriously doubt CC would use Hader two days in a row on the final weekend of the year when we rarely even see him twice a week now. I would hope we would be good enough to beat the Tigers at home where we wouldn't need to use Hader back to back but then again, this team never makes it easy on themselves.

The Tigers just beat the Yankees in NY. Anyone can beat anyone in one game.[/quote

I watched that game on Fox before this game and the Yanks won 2-1.

A LOOGY who's actually a LOOGY. That seems like a good idea!

Might have taken until August 31 to acquire one, but better late than never.....

Tbf I think that's the right way to go. A LOOGY is great to have in the playoffs, but a bit of a luxury to carry on the 25-man during the regular season. Especially if you're a team relying a lot on your bullpen, with a short leash on starters. I'd rather have another multi-inning reliever in the 'pen. Mind you I'm talking pure LOOGY here; a lefty specialist who's decent against righties and can get 3 or more outs is another story.

So is Chase Anderson only good for about 80 pitches? I realize he labored through the last inning so this may be the smart move, but geez.

My guess is the damage Harper might have done to Third-Time-Through-the-Order-Chase!

You're right. I knew that was the reason, that's been the M.O. this season.

Tigers won 2 days ago. In the general scheme of a 162 game season, that qualifies as "just"! ;)

For all the complaints about Pina this year he's got his OPS over .700 now, about a 10 HR a year hitter.

That's just fine for a high end defensive catcher.

The complaining was before he decided to stop hitting like a pitcher. It was well deserved.

But as you said, it is fine...not really that good...just fine. It would be preferable if we got more out of Arcia though if Pina is going to hit low .700s

That brings Manny Piña up to 89 wRC+ for the year. Very nice recovery after a poor first half offensively. That level is perfectly fine for a good defensive catcher.

An August line of .400/.442/.511/.953 (prior to tonight's game) will help a little bit. Stay hot Manny!

He had a bad July at the plate but from May 10th (when they began a road trip at Colorado) up until first pitch tonight he's slashed .287/.340/.421/.760

He had a rough 1st half offensively, but he was never in Arcia territory.

I mean don't get me wrong, I was all over getting Realmuto, but Pina has rebounded nicely.

There have been some frustrating reasons why the Brewers have lacked consistency this year, but I'm sure the catcher production wasn't even in the top 10. I'd feel perfectly comfortable with Kratz and Pina should we make the playoffs.

Agreed. Respectable players who seem to set the tone with intensity. Or it’s just my view of “No Smile Kratz”. But overall not bad production for two league min guys.

That's a very fair point concerning a pure LOOGY, which is probably more of a pennant race/playoff necessity. Of course, having a LHP who can dominate left-handed batters and hold his own against righties is optimal for a roster at any time in the season. Cedeño's stats this season make him look like an effective reliever against lefties and righties; that should be a helpful bullpen addition for the 2018 home stretch.
