KJ Harrison, a catcher, and Gilbert Lara, an infielder, were late scratches from minors game tonight, and are believed to be going to nats in the agreed-upon Gio trade with brewers. Kyle lobner mentioned the lineup change 1st

Lara has looked WAY better than last year this season and is still VERY young, and Harrison has struggled, but you can see that he is going to be a good piece at some point.

It seems Lara has been in our system forever, but he is still only 21 years old.

If we traded both away for Gio Gonzalez, I will be very unhappy.

Lara has been terrible all 12 years he’s been in the system and I have a feeling they know what they had in him. I kept waiting for it to click with him and it never did. Harrison didn’t do much as a 22 year old in A ball. Seems like he’s a long ways away. We may regret it someday but I’d be surprised if either of these guys makes it to the majors.

If true, that is way way waaaaaay too much to give up for a massively struggling rental pitcher. I'm scratching my head on this one.

Edit: Not so upset about Lara (or either really), but I have trouble understanding why they'd trade anyone with any potential for a month of a struggling pitcher. I hope I'm wrong.

We value Lara way more than we should

Lara would have been eligible for the rule 5 draft this coming offseason...doubtful anyone would have picked him up because it's taken him roughly 4 years to become decent in low A ball, but that basically seals his fate with the brewers...had he ever figured it out he never would have been able to stay with the brewers' or long enough to play in milwaukee.

It seems like a lot to give up only if you value has been prospects way too much.

I don't care at all about Lara, but why would Harrison have to be thrown in given Gonzalez has been straight garbage since the All-Star break? Harrison had a nice year in rookie ball.

Don't forget Mario Feliciano either.

And Max McDowell. Possibly the best defensive catcher in all of the minor leagues, and the bat is starting to play. I think he has future MLB catcher written all over him. Maybe not a high offense guy ever, but that defense means he'll play for a long time.

Gio has been good his whole career and maybe the brewers see something they can fix. Seems like we’ve done a good job getting something out of starters that were thought of as garbage. We didn’t give up anything and I’m excited to see if he can turn it around and be our Cole Hamels.
