Oh man. Using batting average as your only assessment tool. Try scrolling a bit to the right to see those OPS numbers. And then check out those career numbers to support it even further.

They're not my only assessment tool. Clutch hitting starts with hitting safely in high pressure situations. You can look beyond that one metric all you want. In situations where his team was behind, Shaw failed to hit safely in 8 out of 10 at bats. That's terrible.

And when it’s tied, or a RISP w/ two outs? Those aren’t clutch situations? You literally picked out two stats of the entire bunch to make a point. It’s just such a crappy way to make a point.

I think you have each made your points. Time to move on.

Seriously man, this is an awful way to try to justify your opinion. Trying to equate some type of useful meaning to 72 PA of baseball is terrible, as someone else mentioned his tOPS+ suggests he has actually been above average even with this small sample. You are completely misrepresenting the meaning of statistics with this post. The stat you posted doesn't tell the story you are trying to make it tell in the first place and the reliability of the stat is too low to matter in the big picture. The stat itself isn't even the proper one to measure what you are trying to measure.

Does such a thing as clutch hitting even exist? It's really about which guys can best handle the hard-throwing relievers that teams go to in close situations these days and the right matchup happening to coincide with the situation. I highly doubt the actual circumstances of the game are affecting these guys much.

But I’m done arguing. Im sure I’ll get some sort of mod after me even though this was a flat out ridiculous take.

Ok, point taken. I was trying to gauge how he's performed in (what was) our current situation, but you're right, you can't exclude other situational data.

Get Peraza out, no matter what. If Bad Motor Scooter comes up with a runner on, I might have a coronary.

Clutch plays, clutch hits are things that happen. Being consistently clutch... Well, why didn't that guy try that hard all the time?

Kratz wants to play in the playoffs. He is this teams Jake Taylor.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.
