But if you just have Soria or Williams start the inning your chances or runs given up goes drastically down vs Albers

Hard to do that when you had to go to your bullpen in the 2nd inning. One more run and the game is in extra innings... then what?

Woodruff's turn in the rotation is tomorrow; he last pitched on 8/24. Expect to see him up. If not... don't be surprised (or upset) if Wilkerson is up. He's on the AAA Temporary Inactive list and hasn't pitched in a while. He's as fresh as anyone.

Albers has to be DFAd right? Or at least a fake injury to get him off the roster?

I sure hope so. His ERA for the year is now a paltry 7.24!!

Giving Albers two years will go on the Stearns hall of Fame plaque as well.

Look at Albers' contract. Then look at his numbers last year. When he was signed, it was lauded as a great move by pretty much everyone here.

My error. I forgot Diaz was flipped for Yelich.

He’s still an overrated GM

I don’t understand why or how he’s overrated. His team has improved each year. We were technically supposed to be in rebuild for quite a bit longer. All GMs have moves that dont pan out. All of them. But the one thing you can’t take away from Stearns is that this team is in a much better place today than when he took over and going forward.

We are 9th in runs scored and 7th scored in the NL. Solidly middle of the pack.

Our farm system is ranked in the 20’s currently.

After tonight I truly feel they should fire Counsel just like they did Yost during the 2008 playoff run.

How’d that work out for us and the Royals? For what it’s worth Baseball America just ranked CC as the best NL manager.

i can not see CC being fired but someone in the FO needs to tell CC to change the way he uses the pen as every game is totally important. we can't save these guys for the playoffs at this point. great start by Guerra i would jope he gets replaced

And he’s still building while winning 85+ games a year. Any other Brewers GM do that in our history? Don’t pretend like that last number means much when he used a large chunk of that system to acquire our best player since MVP Braun.

Can we DFA our manager? Doable?

Don't overlook how Melvin got it started. Melvin acquired Hader/Houser/Santana/Phillips, Davies, Knebel, Diplan, and Lind (who Stearns flipped for Freddy Peralta).

No CC is here for the long haul but we need DS to find a Starter next season enough with these mediocre arms.

The short starts have doomed this team. I know some fans have said that bullpenning is the wave of the future, but if it worked, it would have been done already. Good starting pitching still wins championships.

I agree. I think what Melvin did in his time as the Brewer GM is very underrated.

Relivers like Albers are a dime a dozen. Especially out of shape ones on the wrong side of 30. Knebel couldn't even have two good years in a row and he has great stuff. Just because some people thought it was a good idea I for one did not. The year before wasn't he terrible??

And of course, there's the seventh run. If Counsell's bullpen management doesn't suck, we're all tied up right now. Instead, can't use any of our top guys unless we're tied or ahead.

It is frustrating, and I don't get it. But you can't pitch Jeffress and Hader in every game. If Soria (a top reliever) doesn't give up a two-run triple, it is tied. The pen coming back down to earth has made this team into a .500 squad.

This. You mentioned that the starting pitching doomed the season in an earlier post and while they could definitely be better, this statement is the real reason we are trending the direction we are.

Albers

Knebel

Williams

Soria

Barnes

Among others a huge reason this team might not find themselves in a playoff spot.

Much of the teams success last year was from players acquired or drafted by Doug Melvin.

Hader

Knebel

Santana

Arcia

Jimmy Nelson.

Yes, 3 of them have had awful seasons, but without them last year, the team is last place.

Hader is the Brewers best pitcher this year.

I like Stearns ALOT he’s made some GREAT moves

1. yelich trade

2. Aguilar claim

3. Shaw for Thorn burg

He’s also made many BAD moves as I’ve already listed above:

1. Khris Davis return

2. Villar over Gennett

3. Will Smith return

His off-season was awesome. Yelich, Cain and Chacin.

His deadline moves depleated the farm pretty badly and haven’t improved the team thus far.

It IS probably too early to call him any sortve rating.. but he’s made just as many questionable decisions as he has made good ones.

I’m just under the impression the average Brewers fan thinks he can do no wrong, when that isn’t the case.
