Biloxi Box Score

The Shuckers were shutout of Friday night, leaving nine men on base and going 0-9 with runners in scoring position.

Biloxi hurlers Thomas Jankins and Nattino Diplan actually pitched pretty well, giving up only six hits and a walk. Unfortunately, Mississippi got three of those hits in one inning - resulting in a pair of runs.

Batting

Keston Hiura: 1-3, 2B, BB

Weston Wilson: 1-3, BB

Pitching

Thomas Jankins: 6.0 IP, 6 hits, 3 ER, 0BB, 6K, Lose

Nattino Diplan: 2.0 IP, 0 hits, 0 ER, 1BB, 2K

Notes

Blake Allemand has a 14-game on base streak.

Frederick 2, Carolina 1

Aguilar Homers in 2-1 Loss in Frederick

Carolina lost its sixth straight game and was eliminated from playoff contention with the loss

cut.jpg

Strong performances by Alec Bettinger and Rodrigo Benoit were wasted as the Mudcats struggled to score. Ryan Aguilar's 7th home run provided the only scoring for the Mudcats. Cooper Hummel was 2-4 and if you read the game story you will know that his on base average leads the Carolina League at .387.

Alec Bettinger: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K

Rodrigo Benoit: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Cooper Hummel: 2-4

Ryan Aguilar: 1-2, HR, 2 BB

In the next to last DSL games this summer for each squad:

Final: DSL Rangers #2 Squad 11, DSL Brewers 3

Box Score / Game Log

Growing pains in the lineup wrapping up, particularly after stronger players have been brought stateside.

20-year-old RHP Jose Romero improved on his rookie 2017 season, but was only middling here, also victimized by his defense. 17-year-old RHP Ariel Vega's first three pro innings have been hitless (one BB). RHP Victor Vasquez' 2nd appearance after a long injury layoff was a tough one.

***

Final: DSL Rangers # 1 Squad 3, DSL Brewers / Indians 0

Nice start by 18-year-old LHP Joandris Tolentino to end his campaign. Another southpaw, 17-year-old Starling Javier, allowed an unearned run in his inning, which was his 9th appearance of the season.

Six Brewers in the starting lineup, only one hit among them. 18-year-old catcher Roberto Molina is from Venezuela, not Puerto Rico, so his catching bloodlines don't trace back to Yadier and his brothers, which depending on your anti-Cardinals bias, is either a good or bad thing.

These are excellent game summary write-ups coming your way below. It was a big night for Colorado Springs, Wisconsin, and Helena in terms of playoff contention and positioning. The evening could not have gone better score-wise for these teams and within their respective leagues.

LHP Aaron Ashby's JUCO strikeout numbers were insane, and he's fashioning that reputation with the Brewers. How did this guy last until late in the 4th round?

Biggest hit of Chad McClanahan's brief Wisconsin tenure, for sure, as you just read.

We'll arbitrarily have you look at June 21st and forward in Gilbert Lara's game log. See you consistently .250-ish his batting average has been.

So much info within...

No word on the lingering status of Jacob Nottingham's wrist. Brewers really need a 3rd catcher for September, there's a 40-man roster crunch, but can you wait on Nottingham? Will Bandy or Christian Bethancourt get the call?

Box Score / Game Log

Seeing LHP Dan Jennings' big league struggles remind us that 23-year-old LHP Quintin Torres-Costa, who has to be added to the 40-man this fall regardless, has been spectacular all season. WHIP of 0.92 across 50 innings, and has been equally effective at both the AA and AAA levels regardless of RH or LH bats. See you in the big leagues September 1 regardless of the Sky Sox playoff status, Quintin.
