Knebel optioned to AAA to make room for Soria

This is a good move, good for the team, and for the fan base. It not only shows that there needs to be results, but holding guys accountable for being not very good. Sure, the plug maybe should have been pulled (short or long term) sooner in some cases this year, but at least this management team releases and demotes players who fully deserve it.

This isn’t good. It’s fine that we sent him down because he’s not producing but in the grand scheme of the season, it isn’t good.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Just imagine how good this team would be if nearly every guy who had a career year in 2017 didn't regress terribly? Shaw is about the only one, and even he was cold for long stretches this year. Davies and Anderson in the rotation, not to mention Nelson missing all year. Knebel went from All Star to punching bag. Arcia ... Santana. At least Pina is starting to hit, but he was bad for much of the season.

This team would be on pace for 100 wins had these guys played up to the level they did last year, and combined with the new guys who are playing well.

I think they are great at giving guys the right amount of leash. Fans tend to be way too impatient and you can't manage a team that way. Anybody who's struggling could turn it around at any time. You'd lose the respect of the players if you benched guys every time they went through a rough patch.

Some regimes stick with a liability guy nearly all season, but the Brewers don't do that. Even Sogard and Drake got the right amount of leash given their previous season's work and the fact that there really wasn't a good alternative at the time.

That's why they made the upgrades they did. I think some regression was inevitable. Their best baseball is still ahead of them. They got pretty lucky last year and won 86. This year they've been pretty darn unlucky and will probably win more than that. I'm very happy with their progress.

On the flip side, the regression was everyone's worst fear heading into this season. That it basically happened and they are still in the hunt on August 23 is pretty unbelievable. If you told me this would happen I'd have this team pegged for 69-93.

options are burned at 20 days. which basically means if you're optioned twice and not recalled during either time to replace an injured player, you've spent at least 10 days down each time: 20 days.

the sky sox have 11 games over the next 10 days, and the majority are not in colorado. knebel will get his work in.

It's better than him sucking at the MLB level.

The point is that Knebel was being counted on to again put up solid closer numbers for a contending team. The fact that he hasn't to the point where the team felt compelled to ship him to the minors is not good.

It will be considered a good move if Corey can work on things and return to form. AAA is where guys should go to work on their mechanics, not on the big club.
