"Scoreboard Watching" Is Not Helpful...

Except we don't control our own destiny. The Brewers trail five teams in the loss column right now. That is one for every playoff spot. We need at least one of those teams to help us and lose more games than we do.

Someone who gets it. The loss column is all that matters. If the Cubs lose up to 4 more games than the Brewers lose the rest of the season they win.

So scoreboard watching is pretty important. Not that we can do anything about it.

If there were fewer games remaining and the Brewers didn't play the Cubs 6 more times, I can see your point, but we do control our own destiny since if we win out, the Cubs have to lose 6 times and we'd jump ahead of them. Of course, the Cubs also control their own destiny, which shows it's too early to be talking about controlling destinies and fretting over the "loss column being all that matters."

There are at least four teams that control their own destiny for two spots. Considering the Brewers have played anywhere from 1 to 3 more games than the teams below us, it could be argued that those teams have more control of their destiny. Scoreboard watching, albeit stressful at times, is what makes playoff races fun.

It's fun to root against a team or even wish injury on players?? I saw that from a poster here a few weeks ago that they were hoping Byrant's injury is "serious".

Of course it's fun to root against a team. I hope the Cubs lose every game the rest of the season. Why wouldn't you? You don't think the teams competing with us want us to lose too?

As far as a poster saying they hoped Bryant's injury was serious, I'm here basically every day and I don't remember seeing that. I'll certainly stand corrected if I'm wrong but with all due respect I think you should provide evidence of such an incident if you're going to make that kind of accusation.

We get it doesn't change the outcome, it's just fun to see what other teams you're competing against for playoff spots are doing. If you strictly want to follow Brewers games, that's fine, but some people enjoy the bigger picture like myself. While we do control our own destiny to a certain degree, that's not entirely true. If the Cubs keep winning and the Brewers keep winning at the same pace, we're not taking the division.

We control our own destiny because we play the Cubs more than that deficit in the loss column. We win the rest of our games and we are in. If the Cubs did the same (except losing to us) they would have no chance to overtake us.

Insensitive posts? Winners don't care about hurting feelings. That's what my bar league softball coach told me once.

FV

Did you ever play Little League? I was a 3X All-Star in that and Pony League thanks to my old Coach Cooper. It's too bad he died early from lung cancer because I always thought he could manage better than 1/2 the MLB managers today. I highly doubt that the Cubs organization signs a youngster without looking at their past social media history.

Odd that they seemed to be okay with Aroldis Chapman's domestic violence history then.

GOOOOOOOT EEEEEEMMMMM.

On another note something is probably wrong with you if some little part of you doesn’t hope a player’s injury is serious (like Bryant). It helps our team make the playoffs! A little part of you has to be like “nice!” when you see news that helps your team, no matter how unfortunate it is for said player. Your moral side may not want to hope for injuries to people, but some part of you surely wouldn’t mind it.

I'm from Illinois so maybe we have different values or something? I would never wish injury on a professional athlete.

I was one of the first kids I know of who was suspended from a game due to "poor sportsmanship". After the game, when we had to do the traditional hi-five to the opposing team, I spit in my hand and put gum in it. Coach Cooper argued my suspension but the rich kids who ran the league got their way. I was quit the beast on the mound.

That doesn't sound like the good Illinois values we hear so much about.

Truth be told, I grew up as a kid on the West side of Chicago.

Confused, are you saying Chicago is not in Illinois? Or values exist everywhere in IL except the west side of Chicago?

I think he was being facetious about those values, but perhaps your upbringing beats that of East St. Louis?

I didn't read this entire post but I will just comment on something said early in it. If you don't think the Astros are watching the scores of the A's games you are fooling yourself. Championship teams watch scoreboards more than most if anything. You can play to a playoff record and still miss them if your competition plays even better, what other teams do matters completely.
