2018-08-20: Reds (Bailey) at Brewers (Anderson) 7:10 PM CDT [Brewers win, 5-2]

Eye Black
I can’t really argue in support of pinch hitting Perez for Shaw in the 7th, but putting Perez in for Shaw defensively in the 8th was the right call. I don’t think anyone is arguing that though.

I guess my point about removing shaw in that spot in tonight's game is I think CC did it before he had to, and I disagree with taking the bat out of his hands there regardless of lefty or righty matchup. Let him hit there knowing that if you pull him for perez, perez was going to face a righty and lose the platoon advantage anyway. Sub Perez in for defense after you get one more AB out of shaw in a big spot.

Glad to get the win, hope the bats heat up tomorrow to give the bullpen plenty of room to work with.

I don't have a strong feeling either way about hitting Shaw there or not but isn't there a little merit to a guy like Shaw, who has been up and down this year, heading into tomorrow with his last at bat being a go-ahead home run and maybe building on some confidence rather than putting him in a tough spot against the Lefty and taking that chance?

Maybe it's drawing on my playing days long long ago, but I'd be ticked if I just hit a HR on a 2 strike count and then got yanked from my next ab so my defensive replacement could hit - regardless of which hand the pitcher was using to throw the ball. To me letting shaw hit in that spot builds confidence more than ph-ing for him.

Perez has been smoking hot over the last month. I think Counsell has a better read on these guys than we do when it comes to their feelings.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Chase Anderson really hasn't been as bad this year as we have made him out to be.

Strikeouts are still at a decent clip, WHIP under 1.20 and ERA under 4. For sure he's giving up way too many longballs, but that can be variable from year to year.

I'd say he's relatively in line with what expectations should have been this year.

Rock says Schoop has been such a good hitter his entire career...I disagree.

Currently lost at the plate.

How can you say he has not been a good hitter his entire career when his stats - outside of since he's been in Milwaukee - say otherwise?
