2018-08-17: Brewers (Peralta) at Cardinals (Flaherty) 7:15 PM CDT [Brewers lose, 5-2]

Eye Black
It's been a bit of a steady spiral. They went from best record in the NL, to best record in the Central, to top Wild Card, to barely hanging onto a Wild Card spot now. The big losing streak in July really hurt, and they haven't had anything that long since April -- typically even when they've gotten going, they've won 2 or 3 games before dropping one again, just can't seem to sustain a real solid streak.

At some point, you're going to need to make a bit of a run here if you're going to play any October games. These are big games -- I won't call this series a must win, but at some point you need to start putting together something to feel good about again. They just seem to be stuck in neutral ever since the Twins/Braves homestand in early July.

If they are going to go on an 8 game win streak, I prefer it to be 8 games to end the year :)

I don't know if I agree with that. If they wait for the last 8 games of the year, they might already be eliminated. (I'm not normally part of the crowd posting negatives either, FYI)

Mainly because if they go on an 8 game win streak to end the year they might be hot going into a wild-card game. But I am nitpicking...an 8 game win streak at any point would be just fine be me.

Like the look of the lineup. Wonder if Braun is still ailing from that rib cage injury however.

The batting order looks good, but the defensive lineup makes me nervous, especially against a team with some speed that puts pressure on the defense.

Anytime Thames is in the OF, it's a complete adventure.

Nice stat from Cardinals broadcast crew............Brewers era since all star break 5.41 ...........only Marlins have worse in National League. I knew they had struggled but whew.

In the 25 games since the All Star Break they’ve had games in which they have given up 21, 11, 11, 10. They have also given up 8 four times in that span.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Why exactly is Freddy Peralta still in the MLB rotation?

I'm guessing it's because we failed to acquire better options in the off season and/or at the trade deadline.

They could go with Woodruff who at least doesn't have control issues. They could have slotted Burnes right into the starting rotation where he had been his entire career rather than putting him in the pen where he's struggled.

They could have skipped Freddy's starts with the off days this month.

They had other options without watching this crap continue every 5 days.

We go from Wild Freddie to throw multiple balls in the same location in a row, then boom.... really excellent pitching.... He's young and an exciting prospect but I don't want to see him again until he's figured out how to pitch...
