Not a good outing for Davies, and while Nick Ramirez didn't help in relief Davies walked 5 in 3.2 innings. Have to think that he's pretty close to being shut down for the year as his rehab outings have not gone well.

Good to see Weston Wilson back in the lineup picking up where he left off.

Harber looking sharp in his 2nd AA start. Two walks and a solo HR, but 8 Ks and only 3 hits in 5 IP.

Carolina Escapes With 2-1 Series Finale Victory In Kinston

Weston Wilson hit a go-ahead two-run double in the eighth in his first game back off the DL

cut.jpeg

With the return of Weston Wilson, the Mudcats fielded probably their most potent offense in some time. However, they only managed three hits in the game. The double by Weston Wilson which drove in both runs after two walks earlier in the inning and a pair of singles by Nick Roscetti. Devin Williams worked into the 4th inning and had much better results than his last two starts. Victor Diaz and Luke Barker finished the game. It was the first win this year at Down East versus eight losses. These games are being played at Campbell University on artificial turf while the Rangers build a permanent stadium. The potential tying run was gunned down at the plate by a Cooper Hummel-Nick Roscetti-Mario Feliciano relay.

Devin Williams: 3 1/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K

Victor Diaz: 4 1/3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K, Win

Luke Barker: 1 1/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 1 inherited runner scored, save

Final: DSL Brewers 2, DSL Mets2 1

DSL Brewers Box Score

All the runs in the game were scored in extra innings as the Brewers get back to 10 games over .500. Unfortunately, no playoffs await the DSL club(s) this year as the Rangers' affiliate in the division has run away in the season's second half. The Brewers' elimination number is one with eight games remaining on the schedule.

The exciting thing is that with the DSL season ending a week from this Saturday, we'll get to see a few of the guys come stateside and get a head start on the 2019 season. Last year, Pablo Abreu and Jean Carmona parlayed that late-season AZL promotion into Helena assignments this year as 18-year-olds.

As Jim mentioned above, the Brewers managed just 6 hits, though that turned out to be a pretty potent output relative to the rest of the affiliates on Thursday. The lone extra-base hit was an Alwinson Valdez double.

Alexis Ramirez, pitching for the first time since taking part in last Thursday's no-hitter, allowed 5 hits but no runs in 6 strong innings. After a rough start to his season, the first-year pro now seems to be on track to be moved stateside next year.

Final: DSL Cubs1 11, DSL Brewers/Indians 2

DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score

Brewers' hitters managed 7 of the co-op team's 8 hits, but Indians' pitchers gave up 10 runs as a team that has been playing better as of late has a clunker. Infielder Elian Gonzalez was the only Brewers' DSL player to have a multi-hit game on Thursday, as he produced two singles in his four ABs.

Harber looking sharp in his 2nd AA start. Two walks and a solo HR, but 8 Ks and only 3 hits in 5 IP.

I just watched most of his start from last night and I guess sharp is not how I'd describe it. As I have mentioned before, his command comes and goes and that was the case on Thursday. His fastball, which occasionally had some nice cut on it, was leaking out over the plate with regularity. It did work well when thrown in on the hands of RHB. On the other hand, he couldn't find the bottom of the zone with his curveball for the most part. A number of them were spiked, and a few were left up. Lots of deep counts. Lots of foul balls. Only saw a couple changeups, which were unmemorable. A slider or two as well.

He works exclusively out of the stretch and from the far first base side of the mound. I don't know that he hides the ball particularly well, but he's quick to the plate with what looked like above average arm speed.

The short of it is, command needs to be tightened up in order for Harber to have any shot to remain as a starter, and he needs to figure out a third pitch as well. I still have him as a bullpen guy where the fastball command won't matter as much. Though he needs to be able to find the zone with his curve with more regularity. I like him, I think he has MLB reliever potential. Think he's a longshot as even a backend starter, though.
