2018-08-15: Brewers (Guerra) at Cubs (Hendricks) 1:20 PM CDT [Brewers lose, 8-4]

Eye Black
I agree with the criticism of Counsell for not pinch hitting for Guerra considering all of the circumstances, including the pivotal nature of the game, Guerra’s early struggles, and the off days.
Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Stearns has been a great GM for us, but he's gonna have to wear that Shoop trade. The guy is useless.

It's fun how if he doesn't bat 1.000 he's useless. Just disregard the RBI double he hit earlier in the game.

By the way, he has now hit in 7 straight games that he's started (0 for 3 as a pinch hitter).

Lipstick on a pig. .552 OPS during the last week, covering his recent "streak".

I would have rather seen Jeffress pitch in the game we managed to lose 8-7 late the other day rather than be forced to use him in a blowout just to get him some work, but that's just me.

It's awesome that you can see the future and knew it would be a waste to have Jeffress fresh and ready to go today.

Plesac just said a base hit here will " blow it,open".....lol

Down 4 runs with 1 at bat to go is already blown open.......chances to win about 1 percent.

So we had 4 wild pitches, an error, a balk , missed 2nd base on the neighborhood play and a pop up lost in the sun today......that about covers it.

Ps oh and our left fielder got hurt diving for a ball that he didn't catch and our Catcher left the game after getting stepped on at 2nd base.....other then that it's been great.

To go along with a failure to challenge a tag that lead to a run. Not a great day.

It's awesome that the majority of your posts are just condescending remarks to other posters. Are you about to go on another one of your raging tirades again?

I wonder how many runs the Cubs score with Villar and Arcia on defense instead of Shaw and Schoop. I don't think it's a complete coincidence our pitching is imploding now that we have people paying video game style defense in positions they really shouldn't be paying.

It baffles that me that any knowledgeable baseball fan could say a player is ueseless after only 40+ plate appearances. I get being frustrated, but c'mon.

He wasn't good in Baltimore either. It took him hitting .360 for a month (with an OBP lower than his average) for him to become merely below average offensively.

I complimented you on your clairvoyance. Not sure what's wrong with that? Afterall, you clearly know ahead of time which games are best to use the Brewers top relievers. You should be the manager.

Almost half those PAs are strikeouts. He also has four errors and he was supposed to be a defensive improvement over what we had.

Yeah, that AL player of the week award he had just won when the trade was made was definitely no reason to think he'd produce here. Nor the monster season he had last year. Nor the fact his bat was heating up after a slow start many blamed on injuries.

So many people here who have all the answers. I'm in awe of the knowledge here.

This game is why I don't buy into the "this isn't a must win game/series" logic. We're well into the fourth quarter of the season. When do they start becoming must win situations? You tread water into September and your job just became twice as hard as it is now. Let's just pretend for a minute that we have a chance to win the division. We spent two games against Cubs to gain absolutely nothing, and now we have to depend on other teams to do our dirty work. Most of which I venture to say are not as good as us. The win two out of three mentality will work against teams that are behind us, but even winning two of three against teams ahead of us only gains us one game in three days. Wins are at a premium now. I know it's difficult to sweep a three game series but that's pretty much the mindset you have to have now.

His career 97 wRC+ is just amazing. I can't believe he hasn't been good offensively when his whole career shows he has been basically average offensively. I mean, who could've guessed that a guy who doesn't walk, swings at everything, has below average hard contact rates and really high soft contact rates might struggle offensively.

Like I said, I get frustration, but your're still being disingenuous with your information to prove your point. The guy is only 26, and had an .841 OPS last year, and has an at least respectable .740 OPS over his career of 2,400 AB's. Now if you wanted to say he's prone to streakiness due to his swing and miss tendencies, I'd be in full agreement.

If the Brewers win 2 out of 3, that puts them around 94 wins. Sounds like that would work to me. Obviously the mentality should be to sweep teams. It would have been a huge win today, but by no means is it a "must win".
