September callups

adambr2

Broxton -. Would seem relatively certain. Good defensive sub or pinch run option late.

Santana - Of course.

Saladino - Another yes, versatility helps in September.

Woodruff. - Yes, decent spot starter or long man.

Asher - Sure, why not? If anything else keeps Perez and Kratz off the mound.

Houser - Same.

Hernandez - Could see him getting some work in the biggest of blowouts, not much else.

So those are my 7. Don't see a big reason to call up Wilkerson, Diplan, or Orf. Nottingham should get a call too if healthy.

I really want to see Keston come up, but the Brewers shouldn’t and probably won’t give up that year of control. I’d love to see it though...

Also Tim Dillard for a meaningless game. The guy has been a Brewer since 2002 and it would be nice to send him off with one last game in the show, even though he’s not really valuable.

Just two things I would like to see that won’t happen

I think Nottingham will also get brought up

if nottingham isn't healthy, you have to wonder if the club will create space on the 40-man to add jett bandy or christian bethancourt. both have been putting up respectable offensive stats in triple-a.

Does September call up time count towards service time? If they were to call up Hiura does it burn anything compared to calling him up next May/June?

Yes, September call ups count against service time.

In the case of Hiura, if you had him up for three weeks, you'd then want to delay his call up next year by an equivalent time frame.

I know some teams don't like too many guys in the dugout, but I'd use every resource that was available to me.

Broxton, Santana, Orf, Wilkerson, Houser, Asher, Saladino, Santana, Woodruff, Nottingham - probably missed someone.

Without a question I'd add a third catcher. It's foolish not to. So if Nottingham isn't healthy, I'd move him to the 60-day DL and bring up Bandy or Bethancourt.

They should also look at adding guys to the 40-man roster if a spot can be made -- guys that they intend to add this off season - and can potentially help them this year. Ramirez is a guy that comes to mind - a lefty specialist.

To me, anyone that can help should be added.

Given how many of those guys have already been up and or could contribute in specific roles it is definitely not a case of just having too many people hanging around. Oddly enough when you are playing kids to get experience I can see why you wouldn't want to just have a bunch of people fighting for playing time.

This is my thought. Anyone that could help on a given day should be up. RH and LH options for PH, defense, every possible arm, 3rd and even 4th catcher. I could see Nottingham and Bandy coming up.

One name I haven't seen mentioned is Berry. Despite having Broxton, I could see him getting added to the 40 and coming up to run and play defense.

Wouldn't be surprised if Sogard is brought up. Don't shoot the messenger.

If he's used correctly (7th middle infield option for extra innings or maybe a defensive switch) I'm OK with it. He's not someone like Nottingham that you could justify wanting to get more reps in AAA. If he starts more than a game, fire Counsell/Stearns.

You'd have to find a spot of the 40-man roster to do that. Might be difficult, especially if you need a catcher (and Nottingham isn't ready to come back).

Right. He can also be the 3rd or 4th pinch running option depending on how other guys are used. I could definitely see there being at least a handful of spots through the month where Sogard would be useful. We need to utilitze every small bit of value we can down the stretch.

I'll be annoyed if he ever starts or even touches a bat before the 11th inning of a game, unless specifically to sac bunt. He probably shouldn't even take BP, and if he does he should do it with the pitchers where half the time they are practicing bunting.

though i'm hard pressed to recall if the brewers have ever done this, they could recall mauricio dubon (not to report) and place him on the 60-day disabled list in order to open up a spot on the 40-man roster.

dubon would earn major league pay and major league service time, but it would be for a brief period.

nottingham's right wrist chip fracture should be re-evaluated around 22 august. until then, his wrist will be immobilized.

It's a fun exercise to try to find more than 1 or 2 40 man-caliber Brewers players who aren't putting up respectable Colorado Sprints stats.

If they did this, would any theoretical postseason time count towards service time or does it stop counting after game 162.
