Why does Counsell continue to let the two coldest hitters on our team bat 3-4.

That's why.

One good swing doesn't justify it. And Schoop is completely unjustifiable.

Where would you bat them? 7th and 8th? Simply because they're in slumps? I agree Shoop shouldn't be hitting cleanup but Jesus is your power hitter and belongs 3rd or 4th. Making a lineup isn't as easy as just putting your hottest hitters up in the lineup and work your way down depending on how they're hitting.

Braun has been hot since the break...bat him third.

Seems to be producing where he is..

Seems that Jonathan Schoop has done nothing of value offensively for us since we got him.

Can we stop ripping the guy every time he doesn't get a hit? C'mon we scored 4 runs in the 1st inning and you still have to find something to complain about?

Yep. Adjusting your lineup to try to catch hot streaks is a fools' errand. Jesus has a .930+ OPS and 27 HRs this year, I'd say he's fine there.

If you want to make a case for dropping Schoop, fine, but obviously they think he'll come around and I trust they know better than me on that.

It wouldn't be an issue if every time he doesn't get a hit is quite literally every time he steps to the plate.

Quite literally had hits in each of his last 2 games.

He had a hit Saturday...he had a hit Sunday...if he gets a hit today, that's called a hitting streak...it has happened before.

The man had a .273 OBP in over 300 at-bats in Baltimore this year, but somehow people think he deserves to hit 4th on this lineup? Give me a break.

.264 OBP this year. 370 at-bats. Case closed.

I am no Schoop apologist, but I think it is worth reevaluating once he has been on this roster for a longer period of time. He has been swinging at pitches out of the zone at an alarming rate, but nothing about his career thus far suggests that will continue. Small sample sizes do funny things. After his first week Erik Kratz was on pace to put up Ruthian numbers, but eventually he reverted back to career norms. Just the opposite can happen to a hitter like Schoop, and for the time being I think we should trust his track record. He isn’t going to be a high-OBP guy, but I think he will ultimately come around to showing enough power to justify his role.

All of that being said, I do agree that he shouldn’t be thrust into the #4 spot in this lineup.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Bryce Harper hit about .220 in the first half. By your theory he should have been hitting 8th in the Nationals line up?
