2018-08-07: Padres (Richard) at Brewers (Anderson) 7:10 PM CDT [Brewers lose, 11-5]

Eye Black
The Brewers were always gonna lose 60 games this season, like pretty much everyone not called Boston Red Sox. It's definitely an uglier loss than many, but it's still just the one loss, probably. On to tomorrow...

This was probably the worst/ugliest game of the season. All the pitchers got rocked, non existent offense after one inning, errors all over, a blown 4 run lead, and just a flat out poor effort against a crappy team- all of this after a day off. Also, dropped another game and a half back in 2 days.

I think it's understandable that people are pissed off.

Schoop had a horrible OBA before we got him; I think the Brewers panicked and took a stab on a guy who just is not very good at all. He is not what this team needed. We need a contact hitter ... Saladino and Villar were better at that.

That is a logical argument. Thank you. The people saying Schoop is horrible I believe are wrong. His profile is an odd fit for this offense, though. I agree completely there.

Calm down everyone, Anderson has been the same crappy HR prone guy all season, nothing new there. We brought in Hader and he gave up the lead, what else can we do? We had our best guy out there and they got him. We even had a chance when Jesus hit a rocket out to LF. Then we bring in my Jacob "Hernan Perez" Barnes and the Pads shelled him but at that point we were down and it would not be wise to use more of our top bullpen arms. Schoop is OPSing .706 against righties this year but Shaw is at .904, so I think that is my biggest criticism of CC not using Shaw in the 7th, especially knowing you are planning on using "white flag" Barnes

You hit everything spot on. Today, we have to give the padres credit. After a crap July, they won the Cubs series and are up on us.

But so it begins again. The brewer fade. Only 1 game inside the wildcard but pitching is failing us. Schoop is thus far a complete disaster with errors and strikeouts.

I hear he swings a strong bat. We havent seen it. Schoop = Villar. The problem is that we gave up a good arm for him.

Lh Pitchers eat us alive.

Who's this Scoop guy everyone keeps taking about?

Have we dropped a Scoop-a-loop, like Betty Boop?

Schoop will be fine. Or maybe he won't. I really don't know. But:

1) We certainly can't conclude anything for sure after 6 games, and

2) Can we maybe get behind the guy and hope he can rediscover the great success he had both last year and also just last month, because that will clearly help the team, rather than reveling in every mistake he makes so you can say "I told you so"?

Is it just me or have we had a couple other games where it seemed we weren't very interested in playing? I seem to remember one on the horrendous road trip right before the All Star Break. Aguilar getting picked off at second base ending a potentially big inning? Thames not busting it out of the box on the wild pitch? Yelich fielding? Shoop? That's very disappointing, especially coming off an off day.

Can someone explain if Stearns explained the Scoop deal?? Once Moose was picked up they asked Shaw to play second. He said ok and has looked fine there. At the last minute they give up a top prospect for Scoop. I could see if Shaw refused or looked terrible. I just don't know why you needed him. Now Moose and Shaw are in a weird platoon and Arcia is buried. Made no sense then and makes even less now that he has been horrible.

It's been explained numerous times. The Brewers were done with Villar after he couldn't replicate his 2016 season. Schoop represents a huge upgrade. Yes, he is a free swinger and has had a down year, but his ceiling is much higher than that of Villar or Perez. Stearns values depth more than anything and a mix of Moustakas/Shaw/Arcia/Schoop is light years ahead of a Shaw/Arcia/Perez/Villar/Saladino mix. This team needs offense, and Schoop is the type of player than can carry a team when he gets hot. Give the guy a break. This is getting really old.

What Jonathan Villar have you been watching? Villar has 83 Ks in 278 ABs and Schoop has 85 Ks in 374 ABs.

Noticed that too...I think that marks the first time ever that villar was viewed as a contact hitter. Must be because he's on a different team now.

Is there a 30 day money back policy on scope?

Im guessing he is just in a funk. If not, can we just send him to AA to redouble his efforts on his swinging?

At any rate, we been taking the yearly brewer plunge and are barely hanging on to the last wildcard spot. Not looking good as our pitching cant hold anymore. Sad.

I just dont think we have that hungry feeling. It starts with counsel though. He gives top players days off in big games. Altuve played almost every game along with most players but we give rest days. No urgency. Not hungry. We play like a surburban team.
