Brewers Claim Jordan Lyles

JDBrewCrew

Albers to DL with a convenient left hamstring injury,of some sort

Brewers Physician: "Matt, I noticed you are walking a little funny, does your left hamstring bother you... Now, before you answer that take into account the following... If you say 'yes' the team will place you on the DL... If you say 'no', my assistant here with the big bat will do a new type of physical therapy on your leg then you'll go on the DL... So Matt, What do you think?"

Albers: "yes, absolutely, my left hamstring is hurting bad and I will need a DL trip..."

I knew the Brewers claimed Lyles but never really looked at his stats and I am kind of amazed he has been this bad being able to have a career ERA over 5 and still somehow accumulate nearly 7 years of service time.

Throughout his career as a starter he has been good the first time through the order, average the second time through the order, and very bad the third time through the order...

[pre]Split G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR BB SO SO/W BA OBP SLG OPS tOPS+

1st 115 1026 920 86 215 43 7 19 81 190 2.35 .234 .302 .358 .659 67

2nd 113 1015 929 127 264 47 3 37 58 163 2.81 .284 .334 .461 .795 100

3rd 111 735 649 154 223 57 7 22 68 86 1.26 .344 .409 .555 .964 142

4th+ 23 46 40 5 17 2 1 1 4 5 1.25 .425 .477 .600 1.077 172[/pre]

This trend has proven true this season in which his ERA the first time through the order is 2.08, the second time through the order is 4.58, and the third time through the order is 9.26

Not just “at Night” anymore.

If you read between the lines it's almost as if Albers is saying,he is ready to go on rehab assignment right now......lol

Just as long as he remembers to be consistent about whether it was the right or left hammy.

I know regular hamstring injuries are often reoccurring, but I have a feeling phantom hamstring injuries may prove to be nagging as well.

I was okay with taking a flyer on Lyles, but I kind of just assumed when we acquired a career 5.35 ERA and -3.5 WAR career pitcher, that the plan was not to have him pitch multiple innings late in a 1 run game with literally every other reliever in our pen fresh and available.

While Lyles' peripherals this year have been ok, when your best relievers haven't pitched in a week, and it's a critical game, once they got within one run, you have to use either Hader or Jeffress to give yourself a shot in the 9th. Counsell's excuse that they need those guys fresh to hold leads makes zero sense with all the off days, and the fact they've had a difficult time getting leads. They had a chance to steal a game, when doing so might have turned their outlook around completely. Counsell's lost me. The job is too big for him.

I can't imagine we don't have better options in our farm than Jordan Lyles. This guy does not need to be part of a pennant race.

If things keep going the way they have been since the ASB we won't have to worry about any darn pennant race by the end of next week.
