5-1 on the current West Coast swing... the fellas are doing good things. Curious what Counsell does with the lineup against the first lefty with our new look.

I'd guess Shaw and Thames sit for Schoop and Braun. Moustakas probably drops in the order a bit. My guess is:

Cain

Yelich

Aguilar

Braun

Moustakas

Schoop

Pina

Arcia

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

Yelich

Cain

Schoop

Braun

Aguilar

Moustakas

Kratz

Arcia

Is what I’d do.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Schoop has been on a tear recently. I'd probably put him right in the middle of the order.

Cain CF

Yelich RF

Braun LF

Schoop 2b

Aguilar 1b

Moustakas 3b

Pina C

Arcia SS

Good points but id put Aguilar on the bench and play perez until Aguilar stops swinging with his arms and starts learning to break his wrist again on his swings. This is textbook so im sure our hitting coach sees it as well. Once he starts breaking his wrist on his swings, he will smash them again but until then, his arm swinging has him swinging at ghost balls.

I want 'em all in the lineup:

Yelich RF

Cain CF

Braun LF

Aguilar 1B

Moustakas 3B

Schoop SS

Shaw 2B

Pina C

On a side note: I feel like the next most logical move before the deadline would've been to trade for Harper and stick him back behind the dish.

Aguilar's July OPS was .770.... Stinky Aguilar > Perez every day of the week...

Here is a pretty awesome overlay of Jeffress' 2-seamer and curveball. Arm slot is identical. I don't understand how it's possible to make contact, ever.

Am I remembering correctly that when we got Jeffress back last year his velocity was down in the low 90s? It's been great to see that velocity consistently high.

I was so happy to see Jeffress in the 9th instead of sticking to closer norms. Not trying to make this a bash Knebel post, more of a pro Jeffress. But it's clear Jeffress is the best reliever we have, and possibly has been the best in the whole league this year. In a situation like last night, he should be in there over Knebel.

Aguilar’s July OPS is propped up by games early in the month when he was still hot. In his last 14 games his OPS is .445, which is approaching Sogard country.

I’m trying to figure out how Aguilar is going to show that he’s stopped swinging with his arms if he doesn’t play. I would bet he’s hitting just fine in BP.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I posted something about this late in last night’s game thread, but after being nearly perfect in April and late into May Jeffress has had some rough outings too. Over the last two months Jeffress and Knebel have been pretty comparable.

Regarding Aguilar, it just seems like he's getting fooled by breaking balls a lot right now for whatever reason. It's probably inside his head a bit right now - ex. his 2nd AB last night I think it was, he was thrown nothing but curveballs, and he swung at every single one of them. They were close to the zone for the first 4-5 of them so he was able to foul them off, but then there was finally one off the plate enough that he couldn't clip it. (I could have the sequence off a little bit, but it was pretty close to that)

Post ASG Aguilar avg has to be less than .100 is my guess. Awful. As far as his post asg ops it gotta be awful. He barely makes contact swinging from the arms. Its easy to see, especially if you watch his swing in June. Easy fix once pointed out.

Knebel does have a good bobblehead though. Not as good as ding dong though.

Knebel's July ERA is 5.25 and gave up runs in 5 of his last 10.

Jeffress was 2.38 in both July and August. Only gave up runs in 3 games in July. Yes he's not perfect like he was April/May but he's still clearly our best guy.

Surprisingly they had the same amount of walks in July with only 4. I'd like to see a count on how many 3 ball counts Knebel had thought and how often he starts at least 2-0. Moreover, eye test it's clear Knebel isn't as good. On any given night he has no idea if his curver is there or not.

I saw this earlier, it's like cheating...good god that is wicked.

For my lineup I like

Cain

Yelich

Aguilar

Braun

Schoop

Shaw

Pina/Kratz

Arcia

Crazy that Shaw would bat 6th, but against a lefty it looks like clearly the best option. There's a very real chance that Shaw is ahead of Schoop for illogical reasons, this is what I'd do against a lefty though. Also possible that Aguilar gets bumped down a bit due to his struggles and Braun bats 3rd.

A small part of me wants to see Perez start instead of Schoop just to see the IGT blow up. :laughing Side note, my wife just asked if the new guy "Scoop" is playing tonight.

I have a hard time not pronouncing it SH-OOP.

A lot of it depends on how you slice and dice it, but before his clean outings the last two nights Jeffress had a rough stretch of 6 games in which he gave up 11 hits and 3 walks in 5.1 innings and gave up runs in 3 of the 6 outings. Maybe I’m in the minority, but right now my confidence in both of them is about the same. I’m not all that concerned about which of the two of them closes because they are both critical to the team’s success and, as often as not, they will both have to cover an inning in winnable games.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.
