Gearing up for College Baseball

This will be an interesting year in college baseball. Living in Austin, I am quite interested in watching the Longhorns and their potential pro prospects. The top 2005 pro prospect (as many of you know) for the Longhorns is Taylor Teagarden. At this point, his D is way ahead of his offense as he disappointed a little bit at the plate. Last year he batted only .273, however his OPS was .855. He had an excellent BB/K ratio (44/46) so he does have good plate disipline. He could be in store for a HUGE year!

J. Brent Cox will likely take over for Huston Street as the Longhorns closer. It will be interesting to see if he has the "closer mentality"

Drew Stubbs is a favorite for the top of the 2006 draft. He provides a great speed/power combination, however the plate disipline is not yet there (28/75). Combined with his excellent defense, he reminds me a lot of David Krynzel.

Outside UT (but remaining in Texas) is Rice. Replacing the "big 3" + Josh Baker will be a challenge, but there are plenty of kind words for Joe Savery. It is my understanding that Rice is going to plug him right into the weekend rotation and use him as the DH.

I hope to attend quite a few games this year, and will let you know what I see.
