Will DS go after a starter now?

Recommended Posts

I hope we add a controllable starter just to see what they include in that package and what they do in the offseason. As it stands we have these fairly proven starters or prospects who are more than ready:

Nelson

Chacin

Guerra

Anderson

Peralta

Burnes

Woodruff

Davies(maybe)

If we add someone controllable I would think someone has to go in that trade. Then even after that you are going to run into problems with that many guys going into 2019. That is just too many guys worthy of rotation spots. Depth is always nice, but those guys all have too much value trade wise to let waste away in the bullpen or AAA.

I count 7 viable options from the Mets and O's who would benefit from the change in scenery as explained via defensive runs saved elsewhere here. With 7 different options at varying costs, it's hard not to imagine Stearns finding a deal he's comfortable with on one of them. The only hesitation I'd have is the fact that its the Mets and O's management we're talking about.

Good time to package woodruff and peralta (+) for a thor/degrom and compress the list, and then get Gausman/Bundy for Ortiz+ imo. All controllable and can especially sell deGrom or Thor if things go south for some reason and recover most of the value.

Maybe sell Chacin, Guerra, or Anderson in the off-season and promote Burnes if Nelson's good to go. Davies probably has no value.

deGrom/Syndergaard

Chacin

Gausman/Bundy

Guerra

Anderson

Nelson

Burnes

Davies

I don't think we're getting either degrom or Thor without Including hiura, but for them I'd entertain the idea.

MadBum is a guy I would give up almost whatever they asked for him. Because 1. The Giants as good as they have been every other year, they make dumb decisions so we probably could get away with less for him than a deGroom or even a Archer. And 2. MadBum would give us the stud number one lock down with playoff pedigree. If we got him, I’d almost expect a deep run this year.

Madbum is no ace anymore. He’s still good and would fit in on our staff but he is not the pitcher he was when leading SF to their World Series. The lower strikeout rate is pretty alarming.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.
