So I can’t believe Travis Shaw is going to trot out there at 2B, but I’ll admit this would be a pretty imposing top six lineup against right-handers...

Cain CF

Yelich LF

Aguilar 1B

Shaw 2B

Moustakas 3B

Thames RF

why can't Shaw play 2nd, he's an infielder, it's a shorter throw, less hot shots to deal with. yes there are double plays to see about and other intricacies, but he's an infielder playing an infield position. we is an average 3b and he will be an average 2b .

Don't mind the price, but hate the position switching. Shaw at 2B is not something I look forward to seeing. Maybe if the 3B acquired was right-handed so allow for some shuffling. Don't see how there wasn't a middle infielder available for the same price.

Isn't Moustakas sign through next year? I thought he got a 2 year deal

I see an option, but it may be a mutual option.

Mutual at $15M, $1M buyout.

It just doesn't make sense for the Brewers to trade Shaw as there is no one to replace him in the minors or in FA after this year.

Craig Counsell loves Hernán Pérez...

You almost have to leave Arcia alone now, we need the defense.

Agreed you basically have to keep Arcia at SS now. The next question to answer is who goes down or is released between Perez, Saladino, Villar, and Broxton? I would prefer to keep Saladino and Broxton as 1a and 1b. Assuming Burnes or Peralta don't go down one other person needs to go when Albers comes back who do you get rid of then?

With the often injured Braun and Cain needing some rest or he has some issues flair up I think you have to keep Broxton on the roster. That leaves you with Perez, Saladino, Miller, and Perez. Miller obviously goes but then you have to get rid of someone else.

Dealing from depth - check.

Kept best prospects - check.

Added offense - check.

Got a guy with postseason experience - check.

OK - I get it, but this is wild. I absolutely love the effort, but this is obviously a gamble. In this era of defensive shifts, this might work, but ....

I've seen national writers say Phillips had no path to playing time here. That's only because he can't hit. Couldn't even hit in AAA. Good to cash him in now, much like Ryan Cordell last year.

What's his D like?

Above average, but not as good as Shaw this year.

Thanks. That's what I was wondering because Shaw is pretty damn good I think..

This is so weird. I'm not convinced that Moustakas is the answer.

As Eyeblack said, this is the first move by Stearns that I'm truly confused by.

I don't think you can do as many shifts with Shaw at 2B and Moustakas at 3B. Even as good as Arcia is at SS defensively he won't be able to cover the whole left side of the IF.

Is there any chance they still go after a 2B. I mean, this didn't cost them a ton and even if they added a 2B they would have a stacked bench and tons of flexibility. I just have to believe I'm not seeing something here.
but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

Whatever happens, this team is going to be dang fun to watch the rest of the year, that's for sure.

I'm bummed to lose both Phillips and Lopez, as I really liked them both. They were both blocked here, though, and losing them opens up two more 40-man spots this offseason.

Yeah, somehow I get the feeling that he'll test his worth on the open market.
