Link Report for Friday 7/27 - TGIF!

Ray's K rate in July is still down from June even with a couple of 3 K games in the last week. And still lower then his season total from last year. His average has come up noticeably in that week plus stretch as well. We'll see if pitchers can figure out an adjustment on him, but things looks pretty solid and he has a noticeable shot at 30 HRs for the season now in a pitchers league.

Comparing his current season line to Broxton's 2014 line in double he's shy a few walks and hits but has more extra base hits including a sizeable HR advantage in basically the same number of ABs right now. Broxton was also a year older in a more neutral league.

Considering Gatewood was one of the rule 5 eligible prospects, what options do the brewers have with him now that he's injured to protect him without having to add to the 40 man? Or does this type of injury effectively crush any interest for Gatewood over the next year?

Feel for the guy, he was having a good year after a terrible start in April.

I don't think they need to protect him this winter. It would have been unlikely he would stick on a 25 man roster all year next year. with the injury, I think it would be safe to not protect him.

To add to this, I believe a rule-5 player has to be on the 25 man active roster for 90 days to clear the "rule-5" status (i.e. not on the DL). If they don't, then they would still be under the rule 5 restrictions in 2020.

With gatewood's injury likely taking him out a few months of next years seasons, at least, he would need to be healthy and active most of the remaining season next year. If he suffers any setback and can't be activated until after the all-star break or goes back on an extended DL, he may not clear his "rule-5" status. Because of this, I think there is a very low chance someone would claim him in the draft.
