AUDIO via the Rattler Radio Soundcloud: "On the postgame podcast, Chris Mehring & Kyle Lobner discuss a fun victory over Bowling Green, the performances by all aspects of the game, and the Rattlers success (16 wins in 24 games) against the Eastern Division this season. Plus, hear clubhouse comments from Matt Erickson and K.J. Harrison."

Just want to thank Chris and Kyle - I haven't missed a podcast yet in 2018, whether I'm listening while Link Reporting, or more often, while on my work commute.

Box Score / Game Log

Three wild pitches, a balk, an HBP and no strikeouts in RHP Carlos Herrera's five-inning outing. (Kyle, I picked up on that before you mentioned it at the tail end of the podcast).

If you read, watch, and listened above, then it all comes together in the box score.

SUNDAY:

AUDIO via Matt Pauley's Brewers Extra Innings Podcast: "Following an eventful All-Star break, the Brewers returned to play with a three-game series against the Dodgers and lost two of three. Things continue to go poorly for the club and the big question remains whether this is just a slump or more than that. Matt will do his best to answer that question and will be joined by Kyle Lobner of the Shepherd Express and TimberRattlers.com.

Speaking of the Timber Rattlers, their radio broadcaster, Chris Mehring, will join the program to give an update on the players playing for the Brewers' Midwest League affiliate."

Take in the full podcast, but for the focus of this particular Minor League Forum, the Mehring interview begins at the 43:35 minute mark.

Biloxi Box Score

Tough lose on Monday night ends Biloxi's seven-game winning streak.

Trey Supak was outstanding for Biloxi. He surrendered only two hits over a career high eight innings. Unfortunately, an error, stolen base and a passed ball led to an unearned run in the 6th, and Supak left the game tied 1-1. He walked one batter and struck out five.

Biloxi would lose the game in the bottom of the 9th as Jon Olczak gave up a walk, then hit the next batter, then surrendered a single, which scored the winning run for Jackson.

In the end, Jackson scored two runs on just three hits and two walks.

The Shuckers were equally as inept at the plate, managing only three three hits and walk. One of the hits was an HR from Luis Aviles, Jr.

Batting

Jake Gatewood: 1-3, BB

Lucas Erceg: 1-4, 2B

Luis Aviles, Jr.: 1-3, HR

Pitching

Zack Brown: 3.2 IP, 4 hits, 1 ER, 1BB, 3K

Jon Perrin: 3.1 IP, 4 hits, 3 ER, 0BB, 5K

Josh Uhen: 1.0 IP, 0 hits, 0 ER, 0BB, 1K

Brad Kuntz: 1.0 IP, 1 hits, 0 ER, 0BB, 1K, Win

Notes

Supak's excellent outing (the eight innings was a career best) lowered his ERA to 3.93 on the season.

Final: DSL Indians/Brewers 5, DSL Rangers1 4

Milwaukee's co-op team had a little better luck as they scored two in the eighth and two more in the ninth to walk off with a 5-4 win over the Rangers other DSL squad. 18-year-old Venezuelan catcher Roberto Molina paced the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Bryan Dimas added a hit and a walk and Reidy Mercado chipped in a double. No Brewers pitchers were used in this one.

Carolina 5, Lynchburg 0 (suspended in the 6th inning)

Mudcats and Hillcats Suspended on Monday Night

The Mudcats had a 5-0 lead in the sixth before Monday's game was stopped due to rain

cut.JPG

This game was suspended with the Mudcats in the midst of a 5 run sixth inning. It will be completed at a later date with the venue changed to Zebulon. Braden Webb pitched five shutout innings. Weston Wilson was two for three. The Mudcats were aided in the 6th by one of my pet peeves in baseball. A team tries to give you an out and you won't take it. Twice in the 6th the Mudcats laid down a sacrifice bunt and the Hillcats failed to record an out.

Braden Webb: 5 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K

Weston Wilson: 2-3

Final: Ogden 7, Helena 5

Raptors Rally To Win In Extras

Helena Loses In Extra Innings For The First Time In 2018

By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers

cut.jpg

Helena, MT - With the game tied at four after nine innings, the Helena Brewers went to extra frames with the Ogden Raptors. Previously 2-0 in extra inning ballgames, Helena allowed the Raptors to score three in the top of the tenth. The Brewers got the tying run in scoring position in the bottom of the tenth, but couldn't tie the game, falling 7-5. Helena is now 1-5 on the season against Ogden.

The Brewers patience paid off early as David Fry led off the second with a four pitch walk. LG Castillo then singled into center field on the first pitch he saw from Kevin Malisheski, moving Fry to third. Je'Von Ward then walked on five pitches, loading the bases with nobody out. Malisheski then plunked Eddie Silva to bring home the game's first run. He got the next two, but an infield single from Yeison Coca brought home Castillo, making it 2-0 Brewers.

Ogden got on the board with one out in the third, as Chris Roller hit a solo homer, his fifth of the season. Helena got that run back in the bottom of the fourth, as Je'Von Ward started the frame with a leadoff single. With Silva up, Ward stole second, but the throw from catcher Ramon Rodriguez went into center field. Ward then took third, and the throw from center fielder James Outman went into the third base dugout, scoring Ward to extend Helena's lead to 3-1

The Raptors were far from done, as Niko Hulsizer hit a solo blast in the fourth to cut the Brewers lead to 3-2. Helena starter Justin Bullock exited after five innings in line for the win, allowing just the two solo home runs. He quickly earned a no decision though, as Drew Avans and Dillon Paulson hit back to back homers to start the sixth against Jenri Montas to take a 4-3 lead. The four homers allowed in the game were the most allowed by the Brewers in a contest all season.

Helena though tied the game in the seventh, as with runners at first and second, Orlandy Navarro threw a wild ball four to Fry. Coca, the runner at second, was off and running on a full count, and when the ball squirted away, he rounded third and scored to tie the game.

In his Helena debut, lefty Michael Mediavilla pitched 2.1 innings of shutout baseball, striking out five of the eight batters he faced. The Brewers had a chance to walk off in the ninth after Luis Pasen (1-0) walked two with two out. Fry hit a smash to third that Ronny Brito fielded cleanly to end the inning and send the game to extras.

Minor League Baseball's extra inning rules start the tenth inning with a runner at second. The corner infielders played in for Jacob Amaya expecting a bunt, but he swung away and singled to left, moving Roller the runner to third. A ground out from Avans scored Roller and moved Amaya to second. Helena's infield then played a pull shift on Paulson, but he went the opposite way for a single, scoring Amaya to make it 6-4 Ogden. Paulson advanced to second on the throw, and it proved critical as Ronny Brito singled him home against Joey Matulovich (L,0-1), making it 7-4 Raptors.

Pasen got the first two he faced in the tenth, but Silva kept the game alive with an RBI single to left. Nick Egnatuk then singled to right, putting the tying run on. With the infield back, Jesus Lujano bunted down the third base line, reaching first easily to load the bases and move the tying run into scoring position. Coca though grounded out to short, ending the game.

Helena looks for the series split tomorrow as Wilfred Salaman takes the hill. Ogden counters with righty Caleb Sampen. First pitch is at 7:05 PM.
