BF.net Fan Community Top 25 Prospects Poll - 2018 Mid-Season Edition - Voting is now closed.

Brewer Fanatic Contributor

Ladies and Gentlemen, we would like to invite everyone to take part in the 2018 Mid-Season BF.net Fan Community Top 25 Prospects voting.

Voting is now open. Please take time and submit on this thread your top 25 Brewer prospects. Feel free to list any resources or news that you feel might help people with their voting.

Voting concludes on August 8. You can change your votes at anytime through August 8.

IMPORTANT: FREDDY PERALTA STATUS

Freddy Peralta has throw 53.1 innings this year. A pitcher only need 50 IP to graduate from prospect eligibility, meaning Peralta has passed that threshold, and is NOT eligible to be included in your voting.

So, NO Freddy Peralta.

RULES

1. Submit your Top 25 prospects, in order, by end of day on August 8. Put the player's full name to avoid any confusion (such as Jay Feliciano and Mario Feliciano). I appreciate it you would number them. Also, please list your players from #1 to #25.

2. You MUST submit 25 prospects. If there are only 10 or 15 or whatever, your list will not be included.

3. You are encouraged to go beyond pick #25 - adding a few more is great. That way if someone in your top 25 is traded or released, or if you mistakenly miss a number (not uncommon), or list a guy twice (again, not uncommon), or whatever, I can just bump up your next player(s) into the Top 25.

4. Rankings are determined by total points. The top prospect gets 25 points, second prospect gets 24 points, etc.

4. As noted above, if you submit your list and want to change something, just add the change to the thread. I'll accept changes up to the deadline.

5. Within a week or so after the deadline, we'll publish the new BF.net Community Top 25.

Eligibility guidelines:

Rookie eligibility is determined by the same standards as MLB:

“A player shall be considered a rookie unless, during a previous season or seasons, he has (a) exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues; or (b) accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club or clubs during the period of 25-player limit (excluding time in the military service and time on the disabled list).”

- Ineligible players: Brandon Woodruff (#3), Taylor Williams (#10), Freddy Peralta (#6)

- Eligible players with ML experience: Adrian Houser, Aaron Wilkerson, Nate Orf, Jacob Nottingham, Corbin Burnes

Player notes:

- Josh Pennington - #26 prospect this pre-season - has retired.

- Kyle Wren - #39 prospect was released.

- Kodi Medeiros - #18 prospect was traded.

- Brett Phillips - #4 prospect was traded.

- Jorge Lopez - #35 prospect was traded.

- Johnny Davis - #52 prospect was released.

- Tyler Webb - #56 prospect was waived.

- Luis Ortiz - #5 prospect was traded.

- Jean Carmona - #21 prospect was traded.

Newcomers to consider:

- Brice Turang - #1 pick

- Joe Gray - #2 pick

- Micah Bello - Competitive Balance pick B

Wow that was pretty tough to do once you get past the first 5 or 8. I see these list being all over the place. Also some pitchers need to step up now at lower levels to create the next wave.

1. LHP Cam Roegner (NR) - Sheer domination pushes him to top

2. RHP Corbin Burnes (1) - Really tied for the top. Brewers have not lost either TOR prospect.

3. OF Troy Stokes (2) - Showing 2017 not fluke.

4. 2B Keston Hiura (6) - Opening Day 2020 second baseman

5. 3B Lucas Erceg (14) - Power still there, and the OBP skills have improved.

6. RHP Zack Brown (NR) - Like the numbers at Biloxi

7. LHP Quintin Torres-Costa (NR) - Another Hader in the making

15. C David Fry (NR) - OK, I am liking this... a catcher with a huge bat.

22. IF Edwin Sano (NR) - A switch-hitting versatile player with a hit tool

24. IF/OF Weston Wilson (27) - Rebounded from 2017, showing versatility and a good bat

25. RHP Jorge Ortega (NR) - Out with arm troubles for most of 2017 and 2018, but 1 walk in 23 innings.

26. C Jacob Nottingham (30) - Huge numbers, but is it progress or Colorado Springs?

27. C/IF Gabriel Garcia (10) - A .201 batting average doesn't cut it

28. 1B Ernesto Wilson Martinez (16) - Still walking, but no power

29. OF Demi Orimoloye (34) - Hasn't made or broken yet...

30. LHP Scott Sunitsch (NR) - Another Suter or Roegner?

Reilly, this may the most interesting top 25 you have had to breakdown...as I thought on early returns, the system is in flux & this list is tough! Ton of young potential but not sure what they really are yet.

Yeah, this poll is a big shift with all the recent moves and graduations. It was bound to happen. We traded for a lot of prospects in the last 2-3 years - now it's time for those guys to move up to the majors, get traded or fade away.

I also think you're going to see an influx of Latin American players. The recently traded Carmona is an example. Perhaps I'm wrong about this, but we seemed to have really invested a lot more in the Latin American market in recent years - and those dividends are going to start paying off. You might see a few of these guys sneak into the Top 25 this year.

In reality, an 'in flux' system is probably the norm. Every year, a couple of guys graduate to the majors, a few players get traded or fail, and we had a few prospects in the draft or via a trade, and some guys emerge from the lower minors. Ideally, it's a constant stream of talent to the big league club.

1. Keston Hiura: Just keep hitting …

2. Corbin Burnes: Early returns in Milwaukee strong. Should be in rotation next year.

3. Corey Ray: K rate concerning, but ton of potential and this is still a big step forward.

4. Tristen Lutz: Stats much more encouraging when put in the context of what usually happens with guys right out of high school in A ball

5. Zack Brown: Might be the first time I'm not the one ranking him the highest. This is how you do a breakthrough year.

6. Brice Turing: Hitting in Arizona, but a little more extra base hit power would be nice

7. Jacob Nottingham: Struggles while focusing on defense were somewhat predictable (also why K.J. Harrison's stats aren't shocking), but confident he's a big leaguer

8. Lucas Erceg: Better after slow start. Still think there Is some Mitch Haniger-type late-bloomer potential here.

9. Mauricio Dubon: Too bad the injury cut short what had been an excellent season.

10. Trey Supak: Really settled in after rough start at AA.

11. Adrian Houser: Up-and-down this season, but still believe he becomes a valuable reliever

12. Troy Stokes Jr.: Would be four or five spots higher if he weren't likely stuck in left field. Lot of pressure on bat.

13. Marcos Diplan: Would easily be top 10 if he could cut down on the walks

14. Mario Feliciano: Recent hot streak keeps it from being completely lost season, and Brewers showed lot of faith in him with A+ assignment.

15. Payton Henry: For a catcher who'd still be in college, those stats will play.

16. Carlos Rodriguez: The hit tool seems to be there.

17. Jake Gatewood: Nice to see the power shining, but the OBP needs work

18. Pablo Abreu: Between the age and the walk rate seems the least likely of the rookie league guys to be a Helena mirage.

19. Joe Gray Jr.: Slow start but high ceiling

20. Micah Bello: Cooled off a bit, but solid AZL debut

21. Trent Grisham: Needs to start hitting

22. Quintin Torres-Costa: Still going strong in Colorado Springs

23. Aaron Ashby: Wisconsin debut reminiscent of what Burnes and Brown did there two years ago

24. Demi Orimoloye: Did just enough to stay on here

25. Zach Clark: The K rate is somewhere between concerning and absurd, but if he can ever even get it down into the low 20s, he's a top-10 guy

Here's my top what turned out to be 119. The prospects are grouped by OFP, which is based on scouting reports and adjusted for risk level, age relative to league, defense, and a number of production metrics. I tried to stay out of the way of the data as much as possible so no one got any special adjustments - if I made a change to any of the formulas, the change was made globally. If I don't have a scouting report from an outside source and I haven't seen the player myself, the player got a max base OFP of 35. Statistical adjustments were made based on both current year and 2.5-year production timeframes.

If you're unaware, OFP stands for Overall Future Potential and is more or less synonymous with FV (Future Value). It's a player's scouting grades condensed into one catch-all future potential grade. I would call a grade of anything less than 35 an organizational player, so players with OFPs of 30 and under are not included here. These OFP grades are fluid, though. Players move between 30, 35, and 40 pretty regularly.

Thanks again for helming this yet again, reilly. Always interesting to see how all the votes play out. We moved some serious depth the last few days which combined with the graduations makes the back end of the list a lot more wide open for sure.

Dantel Ramirez is interesting. What is the down low there that you ranked him top 25?

Edit:not being a dink or trying to ambush here, legitimately interested in the answer to my question above.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

When I started my list one of the first names I put down was Clayton Andrews at 25. Was super intrigued by him at draft time as an athletic 5'6" lefty with crazy numbers & he has continued to post the same in his small sample so far.

Dantel was a similar case at 24. While there isn't nearly as much intel out there on him what I liked is he has a great K/BB rate so far at 31/5 in 27.2 innings & from going over his limited game log it seems he is being used in mostly high leverage spots (4-1 record, 5/7 save opportunities in 15 relief appearances). It's entirely speculative of course but that indicates to me that the organization sees something they like in his makeup. He is also from San Pedro de Macoris which always gets a pitcher a couple extra points in my book.
