2018-07-20: Dodgers (Hill) at Brewers (Miley) 7:10 PM CDT [Brewers lose, 6-4 -- Now 7 consecutive losses]

Eye Black
My only question is why is Wade Miley our first starter after the break. This is a time when you get to reshuffle your rotation order, and Miley is the guy we want to make this first start?

I don't understand.

I don't even understand his existence on the roster so I'm probably not a good judge of why he is starting the first game out of the break. Maybe the just want to make sure he really does suck and don't want to wait until later in the week for that determination.

I pray that is the answer. As no other answer makes CC look very smart.

I feel that Hader should get at least one inning tonight regardless of the score. Getting him back on the mound as quick as possible would be beneficial for him.

agreed.

26 pitches on Tueday should not make him unavailable on Friday.

Get him back out there and see what happens.

Apparently McCalvy was confused. Hader may (or may not) be available tonight.

It is a little weird to me that fans are booing Machado. What did he do other than say very complimentary things about Milwaukee when asked about the possibility of being traded to the Brewers? If a guy stiffs you in free agency or denies a trade to your team, sure, boo away.

Yeah, makes us look stupid as a fanbase.

He had no control where he ended up, so the boo birds are just plain ignorant.

I was afraid of that. It's incredulous and just makes us our fanbase look really dumb. Boo him over something he had absolutely zero control over? Okay guys.

Aguilar’s at bat was so patient he took 5 balls.

Edit: It would be easier to watch these wide strike calls if the catcher wasn’t moving his glove a foot to catch them.

I try to avoid complaining about the strike zone every night, but there were some “strikes” that were inexcusable in the first inning.

All of them would have given our batters a favorable count too. Should have been 3-1 to Aguilar, 1-0 to Shaw, and 2-1 to Saladino. 2 of those guys k'd on tough curves. No surprise.

It changes at bats, guys start to protect and it just compounds the issue. At least with a machine, where it is in the first is where it is.

Would be curious if certain pitchers with different movements could take more advantage of the hard set zones, but discussion for a different day.

Haudricourt (Link) coming out of the 2nd half gate spittin’ fire...

Somebody should tell home plate umpire Lance Barrett the second half has begun. From his first inning strike zone, he missed the wake-up call.

It's hard not to. These guys are bad at their jobs and it's really become a problem. Or they've always been bad and it's just more exposed now in this era of modern technology. Either way, there are plenty of ways to get a more accurate strike zone if these guys can't do their jobs properly.

I keep thinking machines will be used, but it never gets there... one can hope!
