Manny Machado (Part 2)

From Rosenthal..

#Orioles will keep other clubs engaged until end in event they need to pivot. They have had top scout sitting on #Dodgers ’ system in recent days. But nothing will be done until the O’s are comfortable with the deal they are getting and the medicals of the players involved.

One way or another it looks like there is a decent chance we’ll get to see Machado at Miller Park this weekend.

I don't know. A few days ago the Yankees had a done deal. Yesterday the Phillies had a done deal. Now the Dodgers have a done deal.

Makes me think its actually the Brewers.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

sorry but i on the side you don't move young controllable arms for a rental

All rentals aren’t equal. Machado is putting up MVP type numbers. If we have to move Ortiz or Woodruff, who I think both end up in the bullpen anyway, I think we should have.

Any concern by anyone that a move to the NL might make those MVP type numbers lessen?

He probably has a pretty good handle on all the pitching in the AL, but he'll see a lot of unfamiliar arms as a memebr of an NL team.

His numbers could easily dip because of this...

Just something to throw out there for discussion.

Since we have yet to have a "done deal," I wouldn't be that shocked if we were the ones to land him.

It's also important to remember here... we are by FAR the smallest market here between the suitors.

Thus, the less talking heads dreaming a rumor into truth.

I think we have equal chances with the other big players when it comes down to it.

Yeah Machado will kill us this weekend if he becomes a Dodger. Because that's just what happens to the Brewers.

im almost certain he will be a brewer. Consider this hearsay though. Im not an insider nor trying to one up anyone.

I hope you are correct in this! I want to believe it because I think this is exciting.

What does "the medicals" mean? Is it paperwork that their training staff reads? Do they send a guy out to Biloxi or CS to do a physical on a guy? What was the actual thing that made the Mets pull the plug on the Wilmer Flores crying trade? Does anyone know a factual answer on this? I have always wondered.

Thanks for couching your language. We are a trigger happy bunch.

I have never been more excited for the last inning of an all star game. This thing has to be announced pretty quickly after that, right?

Hopefully it is a 3-0 win for the NL that takes only 2.5 hours. NL pitchers throw a combined no-hitter and Yelich, Cain, and Aguilar each hit a jack.

Imo, the orioles want CB and will get him Thats just opinion but its a high price....but this isnt the time to be cheap

I think we will be in great shape. If the brewers snatch him without giving up CB then that would be a poker play.

Some regression should likely be expected regardless. Manny is currently at a 156 wRC+ compared to a previous career high of 135. The projection systems have him between 134-139 wRC+ rest of season for reference.

The Dodgers may very well get him, but these types of comments are such a joke. I'm sure scouts were looking at Phillies, Brewers, and probably several other teams in "recent days." For those of you who go to TRats games this time of year, the stands behind home plate are filled with scouts every year.

Generally, yes. Teams keep medical documentation on all of their players, everything from physicals to MRIs, x-rays, etc. These are usually sent for review to the trading partner's medical staff, who will review the information on their end. Different clubs have different philosophies on what would disqualify a player from being included in a trade. The Mets had an issue with Carlos Gomez' hip x-ray (IIRC) - the Astros clearly did not.

It's worth noting that Baltimore has probably the most difficult physical to pass in the industry, so any player they trade for will go under plenty of scrutinies.

Good news, it looks like we'll see Machado playing at Miller Park this weekend!

Bad news, he will probably be wearing a Dodger uniform.

How do we calculate WAR in this equation?

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

This team has had issues developing pitching and now that we finally have something of a pitching pipeline people can't get rid of it fast enough. I'd have a hard time parting with any of Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta or Ortiz at this point. Medeiros and Brown are quickly approaching that territory as well for me.

Bingo. We finally are where we want to be as an organization with arms and a lot of our fans want to use them for a rental. I’ll keep them all and hope we can churn out one hell of a rotation with these guys.

If Machado goes to L.A, I fully expect him to have at least 2 go-ahead 9th inning HRs against us in the first series after the break. Because that just seems to be exactly how it would go for us after all this.

If Machado does, in fact, go to LA, you NEED to post this prediction in the MLB forums because just like a 5-game sweep with a 3% chance of happening, something crazy like this just could not happen and we need to discuss it!

Heyman just tweeted that Dodgers offer does in fact include Yusniel Diaz. Not sure the Brewers would be able to top that without giving up Hiura or Burnes.

He's #4 in a Dodgers' system similarly ranked to the Brewers. Probably a comparable prospect to Phillips and Ray. Would either of those guys be off limits in a Machado deal?

We need to put some of these prospects in perspective. The grass is not always greener in someone else's system. Diaz is not even close to Hiura's value as a prospect in my opinion.

If it turns out everything leaked over the past day was just a giant smoke screen while the Brewers and Orioles hammered out a deal to be announced post All-Star Game I would be so into it.

Not me, because that would mean they gave up too much.

The Baltimore Orioles, barring a last minute snag, will trade All-Star shortstop Manny Machado to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday, according to a baseball official with direct knowledge of the deal.

The official spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because the trade has not been finalized.

The Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies are still in discussions with the Orioles.

Still anybody's game.
