Now the entire break will be filled with “let’s sell” and “don’t make any moves” over mostly one game reactions. Because one bad week can make us sellers, but a good week is just a good week.

Yay for all the reactionary posts!

Let the fans be fans...

The only ones who can complain about the reactionary fans are those who have never been reactionary, which is pretty much no one on this site.

They are 19-21 since June 1st. Hardly reactionary. Reactionary would be making a move to try to make a quick fix and mortgaging the future.

You guys excusing Counsell realize that Jennings is NOT a LOOGY, right? He is an even split guy for his career. If he had pulled Williams for Josh Hader, I don't think anyone would be blaming Counsell.

Dan Jennings isn't a good reliever. Taylor Williams is. There was one out left to get. In the absence of any certainty, which there wasn't, ride the better arm. That was an atrocious joke of a meatball that Jennings left right over the heart of the plate.

That not even bad. Especially when you get to perfectly just fit in a big losing streak. Before this 6 game losing streak we were 19-15. That’s pretty good. Wait a week and it could be over .500.

Hardly cause for concern.

i think fans tend to be too critical of managers and rely too much on hindsight. Pads fans are a lot harder on Greene as they were on Bochy than they should be, e.g., I think it is inherent in fandom. Sometimes players have to make plays and stuff happens. That said, pulling Williams was indefensible. You are 1 out away, no one in scoring position, the only guy on was a fluke on one way out of the zone just finish it and get out of there. Plus the rain came during the pitching change. And this one isn't hindsight this whole board knew it was a mistake.

Williams should not have been taken out. Period.

The game should have been stopped.

Knebel didn’t have it today but was left in too long.

This was a win that we really needed and nope. It is what it is. Long season blah blah blah. The only problem I have is that these games we ‘should have won’ just are adding up at an alarming rate. The cubs are passing us like we are standing still. Even with Machado , not sure it helps us. And that disappoints me because I was excited for that possibility. Instead it feels like a typical Brewers season of the last 10 years. Exciting first half. Deflating second. They just got started a week early. I know a lot of people will be like ‘it’s only one game and good teams have bad weeks etc’ but I have been a Brewers fan my whole life. And until they prove otherwise , this is the same old show unfortunately.

I don't know if we'll make the playoffs, but I know going for anything significant in short term pursuit of a 1 game wild card is a bad idea, and I do know this team ain't winning the central.

It's complete deja vu from last year. 5.5 up at the break, vanished in days. 2.5 up in the division just days ago, now a 2.5 game deficit. We're not outlasting the Cubs.

Agree. Time to abandon Machado dreams. Let the season play out, don't sell, but we're playing for a wild cars. As I've thought all along.

Not sure if it was you, but I know some had a topic about William's having "Roogy" type stats. I would've kept Williams in there too, but I don't see this as a black and white situation.

Why is that true now but not 10 days ago when they were taking 3/4 for the Braves?

Will they ask Counsell about pulling Williams and leaving Knebel in the game too long in the press conference?

Listening now, and it's the same old crap.

Go conventional, get blamed. Go matchup, get blamed.

How many times do you need to get burned trying to go lefty lefty? Other than Hader we don't have a good lefty. Williams has thrown as well as anyone lately, Jennings has been crappy lately. Why not just let Williams finish it?

Jennings has been okay lately but he's never been a guy you trust in that situation. It's not like he suddenly got elite. Williams had good command of very good stuff. Just criminal.

Mine is hardly reactionary as I actually started a thread on this prior to this losing streak.

I want to sell high on some players. Following the break the Brewers have the Dodgers, Nationals, Giants and Dobgers (again). We will know a lot more closer to July 31st whether it is wise to go “all in”. Unfortunately as it stands now, and based on recent history, this don’t look good for the Brewers. At least not good enough to throw away players on a rental.

Painful series. Only one more trip to Pittsburgh, thank goodness.

I don't like pulling Williams at all. Knebel needed to go earlier too. He cannot go from not pitching at all to being expected to throw 30-plus high leverage pitches over multiple innings. When the bullpen is mediocre, this team is really clearly flawed.

On the bright side, 55-43 is a darn good 98 games in a vacuum. 2.5 out in the division. 1.5 up in the wildcard. I would have taken it no question on Opening Day. Especially given regression from Shaw and Santana and decling from Braun.

Now get healthy and come out firing. This team has some good baseball left in it.

Until you look at the upcoming schedule that includes 17 games in 17 days against all playoff contenders, including an 8 game trip to LA and SF. The second half schedule is much tougher than the first half. No Marlins, no Royals, no Twins, no White Sox, no Mets, and the Reds are now a better team than they were in April (and probably better than the Brewers). They do have 3 against the Padres and 3 against the Tigers the last weekend (if those games matter) but there are a lot fewer games against bottom feeders than there were in April and May when they built up their record. Maybe they’ll get lucky and catch some good teams in the midst of big slumps like they did with the DBacks, but I seriously doubt the Brewers can play above .500 the rest of the way, (and I would have said that last week) unless they can fill some of the many holes.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

That was a brutal loss as a fan.

It's not like they haven't beaten good teams. Most good teams pad their record against bad teams.
