It will be interesting to see how they approach Chacin's start. With the All-Star break coming up, there's no reason not to empty the bullpen. I'm guessing Hader cares more about winning this game than his availability for the All-Star game. You figure you can soak up 4-5 innings with Hader-Jeffress-Knebel. Williams is likely available as well, so really we only need Chacin to get through 3-4 innings before we can get to our bullpen. Given our offensive struggles, I think Chacin shouldn't get more than one at bat in this game.

And if he is throwing well? Then what?

With arguably our best starter on the mound might be a preview of a one game playoff game scenario where we just unload the bullpen.

I’m sorry let me rephrase:

Preview of the World Series clinch game.

Yah everyone complains about the bullpen being over rested thus rusty.

Are those people in favor of pulling Chacin early to give Hader two innings?

Just saw the line-up online, Perez starting at 2B. CC just has to start him, just has to.

Cain CF

Yelich LF

Jesus 1B

Shaw 3B

Sadadino SS

Perez 2B

Hader has pitched 2 times since June 29th, for a grand total of 4.2 innings. He pitches less than our starters.

Is that the best way to use the guy? There just isn't an excuse for his management. We had plenty of close games where he could have been a factor, yet he rots on the bench.

No wonder he hasn't been as effective (his last outing anyway), he never gets to pitch.

I don’t get it, Villar has been playing well when given opportunities

CC MUST have Perez in the line-up. He can't help himself.

plus, Perez has earned this amount of playing time. And hits RHP way better than Miller

I'd go Miller over Perez, but it's hard to get too upset about Counsell benching a guy who's 4 for his last 29. I'm a Brad Miller fan, but he's looked lost at the plate just like everyone else. I think all of our 5-9 options are uninspiring. Will really help to get Braun/Thames back and hopefully get an addition so we only need to figure out the 7-8 spots in the order.

I'm hoping Brett Phillips' enthusiasm brings some energy to the clubhouse today. I've wondered if Arcia and Santana going to AAA has affected clubhouse chemistry/morale at all. Most likely the lack of energy is a result of all the losing and playing some many games in a row, but those guys seemed to be popular in the clubhouse and helped keep things loose.

I think the energy comes from Jesus primarily. Every time another teammate gets a big hit he's the first one to congratulate him. He loves to laugh and get the others loose. This team has everyone pulling for each other.

They are banged up right now and need this break. I hope the All Stars do well but not to play too much. Make an appearance than out.

Today Chacin can stop the bleeding and someone needs to get a clutch hit to win this game today.

Just to totally, 100% hijack the rest of this thread, I've seen enough out of Hader's repertoire this season to convince me that he should be in the rotation in 2019. For the record, I wanted him in the bullpen this season because I thought that was the best fit for the team. Let's see how his stuff does against MLB hitters over a long stretch of time. And the bullpen had a lot of question marks. Knebel figured to be fine. Jeffress was a big question mark. How long would it take the Brewers to work in Taylor Williams? Who was the bullpen lefty? Many of those questions have been answered and the pen looks pretty solid moving forward (provided key pieces don't get traded away). Off-season priority should be finding a bullpen lefty through free agency or trade and move Hader to the rotation. Never really anticipated that this current stretch of inactivity would be a problem...just one more reason to move him into the rotation next year.
