2018-07-13: Brewers (Guerra) at Pirates (Kingham) 6:05 PM CDT [Brewers lose, 7-3]

Some of us, who were among the eight or so thousand showing up for midweek games 15 years ago, absolutely DO remember the swoons. We maybe just want to enjoy where we are actually AT, not where we would be but for CC's decisions, Braun's injuries, Eric Sogard, etc. It's hard enough to watch the games we do lose without the IGT's coming across like Eeyore's Emo Gloom Club every time.

You can't dictate people views, feelings, or reactions.

If you don't like the atmosphere here, no one is making you show up.

I enjoy the ups and downs in the IGT thread. It's a great place to vent, and celebrate with like minded people.

If it gets too much, I check out for a while... I always have the option of being here, and if it brought me down, I certainly wouldn't spend any time here.

It's tough. I've been watching this team for 30 years. So even though its irrational (different players, era) I always have a nagging doubt in the back of my mind, no matter whether we're first in the NL or last. I don't know if it's just remaining guarded or what, but after so much history of failure its just hard to get rid of that feeling that it's the Brewers and they'll let you down in the end.

That's such a good point. We've had so few consistently-good teams that the letdown always seems to be creeping behind every corner. It really doesn't help that things go feast-or-famine (e.g. the home-run ball as the primary run producer) with a lot of these years as well.

Sorry, I don't think you'll find any era in the IGT history where it wasn't this way -- I'd argue it's worse when the team is competitive. When they're in a swoon, people are much more easily able to detach from day to day wins or losses. There's really no emotion. Right now, there is.

I’m admittedly pessimistic by nature. I’ve been waiting for this team to slide. They’ve played to the best record in the NL and a franchise record for wins before the all star break. Yet coming into today, they only have a 1 game lead over a Cubs team that really hasn’t played that well. I fear a 2nd half collapse and losing the division by a number of games.

Woot Shaw!!

Sometimes I find it really hard to balance. It's such a long season and every team goes through their peaks and valleys, but I also think that the 2014 collapse really did a number on me. I would say we have a ton more talent than that team did, but I'll never forget the frustration of watching it slip away bit by bit.

I would guess some of the less pessemistic posters here are probably some of the younger ones who haven't seen this franchise not only lose alot, but haven't seen some of the second half swoons such as the ones in 2007, 2014 and last season. Us old guys just start to expect it. Hell, even 2008 when we won the wild card we did our best to choke that away until Yost got canned.

I’m not sure it’s an age thing, I’m 50 and the past heartaches don’t really affect my emotions for individual games. I’ve long thought that the reason that Brewer fans react they way they do is because Wisconsin has been a Packer state for all of those years the Brewers sucked. In the NFL, every game is important and a big loss can affect a playoff berth or a drop in seed that can cost home games in the playoffs. Then after a tough loss, you have the whole week to stew over it and pick apart every key play or decision. I feel that the “every game is must win” mentality has carried over to the Brewers and caused fans to analyze every pitch, swing and decision like each game is 1/16th of a season rather than 1/162.

I’m certainly not going to tell anyone else how to be a fan but what the Brewers are getting their butts handed to them like they are tonight, I turn the channel or find something else to do. I’ll check my phone or switch the game on every once in awhile and if they make it a game, I’ll reengage. If not, I enjoy my afternoon or evening and look forward to watching the next game, hoping they can pull out a win. It works for me.

And just like that, the Brewers made it 6-3 and Villar got a hit, so I’ll watch the rest of this inning to see if they can draw closer.

They just aren't a good offense outside of Aguilar and yelich.

Yelich is like Geoff Jenkins. I have no idea why he's revered on here.

Ditto. He is definitely a good solid player that I'm happy he is here, but he is in no possible way an elite player.

If you don't like it, leave. Wow. I've been a poster here almost as long as the site has existed. Been on many of the other fan sites, and have always considered this one to be more intelligent, measured and rational. Way fewer knee-jerk uninformed fans, and I absolutely get to comment as I choose, just as you do. Yes, I don't get to dictate people's views, but I sure as shinola get to comment on it and the almost RELENTLESS negativity certain posters have. Even when we win, something went wrong to them - we won IN SPITE of CC, we should have won by more, etc. It's freakin' tiresome.

This team is melting away without Braun.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Actually, I didn't say "If you don't like it, leave" what I said was "If you don't like the atmosphere here, no one is making you show up."

Do what you want, it's your time...

If it's so bad, and beneath you, why bother?

I sort of see both sides of this. Years back, like I'm talking 05, 06, 07, a lot of the stuff in IGT today would result in suspensions, warnings, and some regular here would have been booted long ago. The live chat was much more popular then than it is now. The moderation used to be very firm in the kind of place Brewer Fan wanted to be. For better or worse, it's much lighter now, and you can get away with a lot more. It's easier to be a "new guy" now, but overall I would say it's a fair assessment that the quality of the posts has declined.

Obviously I'm still here, so I still like it, but there is a definite change in how things are run. I know a lot of the old mods and ownership are still technically in "power" but they ghosted from here long ago.

Nice outing for Woodruff. I can't understand why this guy can't get a chance. He's young, he was a top 100 prospect, he has good stuff, he's done fantastic for the Sky Sox this year. It's not like his MLB numbers are a disaster, and it's not like there are 5 better options keeping him back.

I am not a conspiracy theorist, but it seems like something strange is going on with Woodruff. Maybe they really did just want to get him a break, but I am not sure it made sense to continue with that plan based on the needs at the MLB level during that period.

Not just “at Night” anymore.
