THIS

I try to keep long term view, but I’m guilty of in game depression too. Last year it was brutal when the decline started right after the all star break. It has got to pretty high levels the past week though I’ll admit that.

The way the pitching has been lately is really starting to make me nervous. Not that I thought any of these guys were stars, but with our second half track record, the jitters are starting to creep in for me. At no point did I expect a division titles, and I still don't, but how bad will it look if we trade for Manny Machado, the pitching collapses and we miss the playoffs completely?

Trying not to overreact here, and we've basically avoided a truly horrific losing stretch the entire season to this point, but in the back of my head I've thought the SP would fall off at some point this year, just didn't want to believe it.

I think we should just concede that this road trip will be a total disaster, falling behind the Cubs before the break, enjoy the break and hopefully come out firing on Friday and hope this isn't yet another second half swoon.

God, you people suck.

You have to take the good with the bad on these in-game threads. 3 or 4 years ago these in-game threads were one of the best parts of this message board. The conversation was insightful and clever and people really didn't over react to the ebb and flow of individual games like many do now. That isn't necessarily a bad thing... But I do agree with you that the immaturity grinds on you at times. I mainly come here if I miss something live and need an update on an injury or a play or something. Otherwise it is hard for me to stomach the "youthful" turn these in game threads have taken...

I am far from youthful, but maybe you should consider not being here if it bugs you so much...

Posts like yours makes you sound holier than thou, and you are not the first to make such posts.

These game threads are what they are, but ripping on the people who show up every night to converse about this team is pretty low.

Just came to post how I hate people saying that the team looks "tired". Total cop out. They just aren't a good offense outside of Aguilar and yelich. Sweep away pirates, I won't be watching.

Great fandom.

:rolleyes

It sure would be nice if emotion came with perspective, however...

Well, that's not how emotion works. Otherwise it wouldn't be emotion.

Yes, some of us need to be able to separate the emotion from this and have more perspective - not always easy.

Like they say, you're never as good as you think you are when things are at their best, and never as bad as you think you are when things are at their worst.

Emotion comes with expectations.

Sometimes I find it really hard to balance. It's such a long season and every team goes through their peaks and valleys, but I also think that the 2014 collapse really did a number on me. I would say we have a ton more talent than that team did, but I'll never forget the frustration of watching it slip away bit by bit.

Same thing last year, which to me was even worse...

It's not a total copout. How would you feel if you had to work at your physically demanding job 21 days in a row, and one of those days a double shift? Not to mention jumping on a plane one or two times a week?

For me watching last year’s 5.5 game division lead over the Cubs disappear in I think just 9 days was more painful than the 2014 team collapse.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

It's tough. I've been watching this team for 30 years. So even though its irrational (different players, era) I always have a nagging doubt in the back of my mind, no matter whether we're first in the NL or last. I don't know if it's just remaining guarded or what, but after so much history of failure its just hard to get rid of that feeling that it's the Brewers and they'll let you down in the end.

Yeah, because the passive aggressive nature of comments like this exude maturity. Oh, and get off my lawn!

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

Yelich is like Geoff Jenkins. I have no idea why he's revered on here.

That's a big insult to Jenkins's arm.

Jenkins had a cannon. I remember being at MP for a game and on a deep fly ball to RF that looked like a sure sac fly he threw a frozen rope that hit the catcher's mitt in the only spot it could have been to tag the runner just as he arrived for the out. It was awesome.

This team swept the twins and then took 3 of 4 from the braves and people were talking about how great they were playing. Now they are about to lose 4 of 5 and this team isn't good. Man the emotional rollercoaster must be rough

I would guess some of the less pessemistic posters here are probably some of the younger ones who haven't seen this franchise not only lose alot, but haven't seen some of the second half swoons such as the ones in 2007, 2014 and last season. Us old guys just start to expect it. Hell, even 2008 when we won the wild card we did our best to choke that away until Yost got canned.
