Pittsburgh Hypothetical- Sweeping or Getting Swept

rickh150
Rickh 150 - did you jinx us?!!! When I saw we lost yesterday, I immediately thought of this post. When I originally read your post I thought, "that will never happen." Welp, guess I was wrong.

Brewers have had miserable series at Pitt around this time of year...in years when we had a great 1st half..... last year after the break and 2004 come to mind, I believe, when we became the first team to win games over 500 and end the season at least 15 games under 500. Throw in this year too.

I thought a 5 game series sweep could really make or make our season. Odds were that wasn't going to happen, but yeah, it did.

I'll stick with the positive predictions now on..... Brewers over the Sawx in Six.

Don't forget about 2001, where the Crew went into Pittsburgh with a 38-34 record and fresh off a sweep against the Cubs at Wrigley. They lost all four, proceeding to go 9-31 in their next 40 games.

I can remember the final game of that series, Pittsburgh won 1-0. The Brewers had the bases loaded and no one out in the top of the 9th and in typical fashion, proceeded not to score.

I have to wonder what the Vegas odds were of a Bucs 5 game sweep? That number had to be astronomical. I, personally have never seen a 5 gamer before.

So as the Pirates and Cincy continue to win and Crew/Cards stumble it sets up what should be the mother of all WC races. Us and FIVE MORE teams.

Good grief.

It was such a strange feeling. I am a pessimist by nature but it felt fait accompli after that first game. You just knew it was going to be a sweep. For such a team game, it is bizarre how baseball can generate such TANGIBLE momentum in one direction or another. I always know which way the Brewers are trending. I would even say after that third Miami game in the series they lost, I knew the sweep was coming in Pitt.

I know just how you feel. Now we have a 5 gamer vs. the Cubs and they take game one easy as pie.
