Brewers Claim Harvey (8/24) - Have Until 12:30 to Complete Trade

Because he's going to his hit innings limit before the playoffs start

According to Stearns he has no innings limit.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Seems kind of late in the season for that. Another week+ and you can call up any pitcher you want on the 40 so you've got Woodruff and others for that.

It's just another arm in the mix of the 40 man bullpen ball strategy...and maybe Stearns was also posturing a bit about Peralta. Maybe they'd prefer him to be a 2-3 inning option out of the pen to limit his innings and Stearns was posturing a bit given that they may be negotiating for Gio or Matt Harvey.

I know we have a 40-man roster crunch, but if Stearns gets rid of any 45+ grade prospect, I won't be too happy. Also, is Harvey any better than Woodruff? I don't think he is so this claim confuses me.

97-98 MPH Harvey is a Cy Young candidate.

95 MPH Harvey is a #4 starter.

93 MPH Harvey can't crack the Mets' rotation.

Right now, we think we have 95 MPH Harvey and he's given me a more reliable sample over Brandon Woodruff to be in the back end of our rotation over Woodruff (who also can be used plenty in the final month).

I'd imagine that given the fact we are in a standoff between the 2 that Stearns is offering a nothing prospect and we'd eat the million bucks or maybe less. If he was offering more, the deal probably would've gotten done a month ago and would probably already be done today.

"@Reds are saying Matt Harvey will start today instead of being traded to @Brewers but Joe Maddon says @Cubs should be prepared either way. "I want to believe our guys will be able to adjust,'' he said."

I am fine with it. Acquiring Harvey didn't really excite me very much.

Lol at the Reds. What purpose is there to hold onto him? Not that I was excited to get him but they’re dumb. Really dumb.

Question...once he has been pulled back like this, can he be put on waivers again?? Maybe the Brewers wanted him to make this start against the Cubs, and will acquire him next week. :)

I think they can, but then they lose the right to revoke the waivers and have no leverage in trade discussions at all.

"Don't force him to choose between Chris Smalling and Phil Jones. It's like asking someone to choose between which STD to contract!"

Correct. If he's placed on waivers tomorrow and the Brewers claim him, he's a Brewer.

Good point. I thought if we could get him for the proverbial "bag of balls" and he helps win 1-2 games, it's worth it. Apparently the Reds wanted more than that so we moved on. Not heartbroken.
