Lutz's early season struggles have been a drag on his numbers all year, but since the Timber Rattlers became a Brewers affiliate I believe they have had only two players in their first season after being drafted out of high school post a higher OPS than Lutz has right now - Scooter Gennett and Brett Lawrie. If he can even hold at his current rate stat levels for the rest of the season, I think it would be unfair to say his prospect status decreased this year.

Also, if Clark can reduce his strikeout rate to a manageable level, he suddenly becomes a very interesting prospect. I think he's a more intriguing sleeper than he gets credit for being.

If you take his 18 April games out, Lutz is OPS-ing north of 0.800 as a 19yr old in A ball - his last month has him close to a 1.000 OPS.

He got off to a bad start that caused some early disappointment and for people to somewhat forget about him, but he's more than coming back around. If he finishes strong, I'd expect Lutz to have a good chance of opening 2019 in high A Carolina as a 20 yr old and be every bit a solid prospect that we viewed him as before this season started.

For comparison, as a 19-yr old Prince OPS'd 0.935 in low A Beloit. However that was his 2nd yr there after playing about a month of games there as an 18-yr old and had some growing pains by his standards (0.700 OPS).

If Lutz had been drafted by the Yankees or Red Sox, he's sit at the top of their prospect rankings, likely be a MLB Top 25 guy, and would be getting pub as the key piece in any potential deadline trade. He is the exact type of guy that the Brewers should be hyping. They do a decent job of hyping their upper minors guys, but the lower level guys don't get much love. That needs to change if they want to stop having to trade guys who are close to MLB-ready for MLB reinforcements.

One thing working very slightly against Lutz is that he was on the older side for a HS draftee last year. He turns 20 in about 6 weeks. Mario Feliciano is actually 3 months younger than Lutz, for reference. Demi Orimoloye, drafted 3 years ago now, is only about a year and a half older than Lutz.

Unfortunately that probably says more about the Brewers drafting over that time than Lutz. At the end of the season, he was talked as being taken in the top 10 in a re-draft. Compared to Royce Lewis and Jo Adell, he hasn't established himself as that level of prospect. Its not a disaster of a season, but his stock has dropped since end of last season so far. Plenty of opportunity to work out still, and figure out plate discipline, but...
