From MLB Trade Rumors...

The Brewers are set to promote one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, right-hander Corbin Burnes, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel tweets. The team has also activated outfielder Lorenzo Cain from the 10-day disabled list; sent fellow outfielder Ryan Braun and catcher Manny Pina to the DL; recalled infielder/outfielder Nate Orf and catcher Jacob Nottingham from Triple-A; and optioned righty Adam Wilkerson, per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.

Now 23, Burnes will get to the majors quickly after joining the Brewers as a fourth-round pick in 2016. He then proceeded to race through the lower levels of the minors over the previous two seasons, and has spent all of this year at Triple-A. Burnes hasn’t been great at preventing runs in 2018, having recorded a 5.15 ERA in 78 2/3 innings (19 appearances, 13 starts), though the Brewers’ Triple-A home in Colorado Springs is a tough environment for pitchers. And to his credit, Burnes has managed 9.27 K/9 against 3.55 BB/9.

Both MLB.com (No. 56) and Baseball America (No. 58) regard Burnes as a top-60 prospect in baseball and one of the best farmhands in a quality Brewers system. In its free scouting report, MLB.com lauds Burnes’ “lightning-quick arm,” adding he offers a 92 to 95 mph fastball with “natural cutting action,” two impressive breaking pitches and a solid changeup.

I'm assuming Burnes is working out of the pen since he's gone 2 innings of less in each of his last 6 outings? If so, really odd to use the 40-man spot on him (which will occupy one spot this off-season) considering Adrian Houser has been rock solid out of the bullpen.

Houser likely would have replaced Lopez today if Houser didn't toss 4 innings last night. I would expect Wilkerson to be the 26th man brought up for the Saturday doubleheader. Miley may start one of the games.

Those innings Houser threw yesterday were wasted innings IMO. Would have been much better throwing those in a Brewer uniform instead of Zagurski. Roster shuffle really getting annoying, although I do like the moves made today.

Although it is disappointing to see the big-money man back on the DL yet again.

Is it, though? If Braun isn't right (whether due to injury or just decline), is he really one of our best options right now? Constantly missing a day here and there leads to Perez playing the OF, rather than a legit outfielder.

As someone else said, rest him through the break and then see where things are at.

I don’t disageee with anything you said here.

I feel this is the first time that they shuffled everything the way we would have wanted it lol

Brandon Woodruff’s last start on Monday was cut short, he hasn’t pitched since, and he was passed over for a promotion today. So I asked and was told there’s no injury — Brewers planned a break heading into this week’s Triple-A All-Star break in part to manage Woodruff’s innings.

Well crap, we can't complain about Pina or Braun for ten days. Hopefully Nottingham comes up and never goes back, like Lucroy.

Zagurski out, Braun out, Pina out, Arcia out, Sogard out ...

Who is the new whipping boy?!? Jennings was trending but gave himself a nice boost. Is it Barnes after one bad outing? Back to Villar?!

I would guess Villar or Perez. Maybe Kratz if he gets the majority of the playing time with Pina out.

Holy roster moves, Batman! Hope something is figured out with Braun. The constant shuffling for his DL stints, days off, and poor play this year point to needing extended time off or just being washed up and not worth a roster spot in 2019.

Will be cool to see Burnes. Guessing he's solely bullpen at this point, like Hader last year. He's had his problems, but Co Springs itself is a problem. The double header will either be Woodruff or Miley, who is on track to be back for it.
