By Garrett Greene / Biloxi Shuckers

Biloxi Box Score

After scoring two runs in the top of the 1st via a Troy Stokes, Jr. HR, the Shucker bats went into the tank, resulting in a 3-2 lose versus Mississippi.

Biloxi had its chances on Saturday with 10 hits and three walks. However, they went 1-10 with runners in scoring position and stranded 12.

The Shuckers lack of scoring wasted a superb outing from the rehabbing Wade Miley, who threw four innings of perfect ball while striking out four batters. Unfortunately, Thomas Jankins couldn't hold on to the lead given to him by Miley, surrendering three runs over the final four innings.

Batting

Troy Stokes, Jr.: 2-5, 3B, HR

Jake Gatewood: 2-5

Tyler Heineman: 1-3, 2BB

Trent Grisham: 1-3, BB

Pitching

Wade Miley: 4.0 IP, 0 hits, 0 ER, 0BB, 4K

Thomas Jankins: 4.0 IP, 5 hits, 3 ER, 1BB, 3K, Lose

Notes

This was Miley's fourth rehab start. Look for him to be added to the Brewer active roster in the near future.

Biloxi Game Log

A Troy Stokes, Jr. home run was the only scoring play all day for the Shuckers.

My goodness, maybe one in a hundred players even try to stretch this grounder up the middle into a double. Awesome heads-up hustle.

LH reliever Nick Ramirez is now 10-1; the only reason he got "Zagurski'd" may be his .364 BAA vs. LHB's in 2018.

How about some love for Tyrone Taylor? Last 10 games he's 16 for 40 (.400) with 5 HR and 15 RBI. He's still only 24 and isn't striking out much.

Forcing his way into 40-man roster discussion in October, because he can walk otherwise, and his agent would be able to filter through many offers, including other direct 40-man additions.

TWEET with additional thoughts, but yikes on the home/road split (1.071 / .597)!

Final: DSL Brewers 5, DSL Cubs2 1

DSL Brewers Box Score

Larry Ernesto was on base three times and stole two bases as well, and a late rally propelled the Brewers to a win and sole possession of first place in the DSL's San Pedro division.

The Brewers also got exceptional pitching performances from the trio of Jose Romero, Abner Uribe, and Jose Alberro. It was Uribe's pro debut. The lefty Alberro has made huge strides this year and should be stateside next spring at the latest.

Final: DSL Rays2 10, DSL Brewers/Indians 3

DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score

The league's worst pitching staff once again lived up to its billing as a close game was broken open late by the Rays' offense. Moises Ruiz allowed an earned run in his 4 innings of work to start the game. Claudio Mota took the loss by giving up 2 runs in the 7th inning. Outfielder Luis Valdez, just transferred over from the main DSL squad, got the final out of the game on the mound.

Final: Billings 6, Helena 4

Brewers Blow Lead In Ninth Against Billings

Helena Loses For First Time When Leading After Eight Innings

By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers

cut.jpg

HELENA, MT - The Brewers have been dynamite in the late innings at home, entering Saturday night's game against Billings 5-0 when leading after eight innings. However, a different tune rang, as the Mustangs rallied for three in the ninth, highlighted by a bases loaded triple from Dylan Harris, to give Billings a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Helena sits at 12-11 and one game back of division leader Great Falls.

After a scoreless first, Billings strung together a small ball rally to strike for the first run. With one out, Drew Mount bunted with the infield back for a single, and got to second on a groundout from Jake Turnbull. Juan Martinez then delivered a double, plating Mount to give Billings the 1-0 lead.

The Brewers came back in the third inning and took advantage of control problems from Mustangs starter Mac Sceroler. Pablo Abreu and Jean Carmona both drew walks, setting up Chad McClanahan, who with two out and a 2-1 count, pounded an inside fastball into the right center field gap for a double, scoring both runners and giving Helena a 2-1 lead.

Billings immediately tied the game in the top of the fourth, as Reshard Munroe reached on a dropped third strike and got to second on a passed ball. He eventually scored on a Drew Mount ground out, tying the game.

A one out double from Jesus Lujano scored on a throwing error from Juan Martinez in the fourth, but Billings tied the game at three in the fifth on a Vladimir Martinez solo home run.

McClanahan then broke the tie in the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer, his fourth, to give Helena a 4-3 lead.

Aaron Ashby went the first five for Helena, and gave up three runs on four hits, walking one and striking out three. Scott Sunitsch entered and pitched three scoreless innings, and came back for the ninth with a one run lead. He got a ground out from Jake Turnbull, but was then pulled for Chad Whitmer. Whitmer walked the first two to load the bases, and Bren Spillane then hit a ground ball to second that Yeison Coca booted, loading the bases. The Brewers then went to the bullpen again for Peter Strzelecki, who got Zeek White to pop out for the second out. Dylan Harris then hit a sinking liner to left that Je'Von Ward dove for in order to make a game winning catch. Ward couldn't make the play and the ball rolled to the wall, scoring all three runners to give Billings their first lead at 6-4.

Helena went down in order in the ninth, losing to the Mustangs for the third time in four games.
