I generally like Counsell, but I do no understand his strategy of putting our worst reliever in when down by a run or two. Guys like Drake and Zagurski have repeatedly turned winnable games into blowout losses. Every team has lackluster bullpen arms, but these guys should be innings eaters in blowouts and nothing more.

This is on CC squarely today. I don’t for the love me me know what he was thinking keeping him in for more than one clean inning which was a blessing in itself! I am not super critical of him unless it’s something blatant we all can see. This was bad bad bad mojo.

Really don't get it. I was all for throwing Z-chubs out there if Wilkerson blew it and the game was out of hand, since it's a waste to use Hader as an innings eater.

You chase the un-hittable pitcher, make it a 1 run game, Hader hasn't pitched in four days...and keep the Zagurski in. Will Perez or Kratz have the 9th, since CC had already conceded?

My guess is it comes out that Hader has some minor injury tomorrow. It would also make sense if they have decided to stretch him out as a starter because of the Suter injury. If they stuck with Zagurski just because we were still down a run then I'll agree that Counsell mismanaged this game. Last nights game was just fine though, nothing at all wrong with how he ran the bullpen.

Counsell's pen management the last 2 games has been absolutely atrocious.

last 2 games?

I think he has always been questionable when it comes to his pen use.

Makes sense we’d give big z two innings but willams one....

Typical CC logic.

Getting a clean inning out of Zagurski is a blessing. Trying to stretch two out of him is stupid.

I can't even fathom why he would allow him to come in a 2nd inning. We got lucky the first inning, why not take what the Gods give us and be happy with that? Nope, we have to test it, and lost.

Frustrating.

So, wait, if the brewers don't score another run today, is Counsell retroactively a genius?

That's how this works now, right?

It's incredible to me that a 35 year old with a career ERA over 7 not only got added to the 40, not only got added to the 25, not only got predictably lit up in his first game but actually received a second chance to be predictably lit up again.

For a front office that normally pulls the right strings, they got way too cute with Zagurski while Ramirez and Torres-Costa continue to waste away in Colorado Springs.
