2018 Trade Deadline Prediction Thread

McCalvy asked, and Searns said it was planned to manage Woodruff's innings. I can't imagine Woodruff is on much of an innings limit, though.

This smells like smoke and mirrors to me ...

I mean, I HOPE, it’s only smoke and mirrors! I want an impact bat !! :)

Yeah, I kind of smell smoke as well. Woodruff as part of the package for Realmuto wouldn't bother me at all. I get a sense of some fatigue regarding Woodruff as a prospect on this board, but I would think he still has very high value as a young power pitcher.

I'd hate to lose Woodruff. I see him as a right-handed Hader at this point.

They are VERY different pitchers. Hader has a lot more deception in his delivery, while Woodruff is straight upper 90s power with a full starter's arsenal of pitches mixed in. Woodruff doesn't profile as a reliever. Not sure I see the comparison.

Where is all this Machado to the Brewers optimism coming form? I just don't see it.

From this article... Orioles busy fielding offers from Dodgers, six other teams on Manny Machado

That doesn't say a whole lot except that maybe the Brewers are third in the pecking order of teams vying for the guy. I haven't read anything that would suggest anyone but he Dodgers as the clear favorite with the best deal on the table and the ability to significantly improve on that.

I actually haven’t seen anywhere that lists the Dodgers “as the clear favorite” and yesterday’s reports stemmed from that specific article.

Also, it’s a random prediction thread which is really meant to be more fun than anything. I am “predicting” a Machado trade for the Brewers while I still believe the actual odds of such a trade happening are less than 20%.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Fair enough, though that article does say the teams were listed in order of most liked package. The Dodgers were first.

Woodruff is a great prospect but I don't think he has top of the rotation upside. I would have no problem dealing him for a major addition. Hiura and Freddy probably the only two prospects I wouldn't trade for anyone.

Trade Prediction: Brewers acquire Manny Machado from the Orioles in exchange for three players...

1) RHP Brandon Woodruff

2) Either RHP Luis Ortiz or RHP Marcos Diplan

3) Baltimore native Troy Stokes, Jr. (OF)

I think this is real close, a situation where player #2 determines if it's an overpay by Milwaukee or not. IMO, Woodruff and Stokes plus a fringe prospect is what <3 months of Machado should go for. Ortiz seems like too much...Diplan seems pretty reasonable for both sides IMO.

Then it comes down to if the Dodgers want to trump the Brewer's offer. They are much deeper in the "top 10 organizational prospect" tier and could easily outbid a non-Hiura/Burnes/Peralta package.

I have no faith in Ortiz (being & remaining healthy) at this point. If the O's prefer him to Diplan, agree and quickly load Ortiz into a bubble wrap suit heading to Baltimore.

Considering how the Orioles handle physicals, Ortiz is 50-50 to pass it.

If Machado only costs woodruff as a headliner I am in. If we can improve this team a ton without losing Burnes or Huira that would be great. I think woodruff is solid but probably overrated by some Brewer fans

Rentals just aren’t getting what they used to. Woodruff being a top 100 guy is enough of a headliner. Based on what the oriels are looking for I would say that a package of woodruff and erceg get its with a third flyer type ptbnl (hopefully not Jean Carmona) maybe one of bickford, Williams, Kirby.

Almost what I was thinking except maybe Erceg in place of Stokes. Reports are that Baltimore is looking for replacement for that side of the infield.

If they were scouting AA today, they may demand Diplan.

I think it takes more. IF that were good enough it'd be done by now.

I found it interesting that a week or so back there were reports that Shaw was taking grounders at 2nd base, possibly meaning the Brewers had an eye on a 3rd baseman via trade. I'd almost say that instead of going after Machado, go after Nolan Arenado. The Rockies aren't going anywhere this year and selling him now would get them a ton of prospects. We get an MVP type player for 1.5 years instead of 2-3 months. It would take a ton of prospects, but if we're going all in, then go all in.

Hiura, Woodruff, Erceg, Phillips and Medieros?

.264/.320/.474/.795 is his line away from Coors over his career. I like him a lot but his numbers are so inflated.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Very true, I would assume his numbers would go up a bit though, moving from the NL West which is full of pretty big parks to the Central which seems to a lot more hitter friendly. He also plays some amazing defense which could help out our potentially questionable playoff rotation. There's a 95% chance it wouldn't happen, but it's nice to dream, lol.

My guesses:

#1

Brewers

Machado

Orioles

Woodruff

Diplan

Houser

Stokes

#2

Brewers

Dozier

Twins

Grisham

Lopez

#3

Brewers

Happ

Blue jays

Gatewood

Phillips

Derby

We corner the market on rentals. It’s a lot more than we are looking to pay but I like the offense with Machado and dozier who is a second half player and I like him to turn it on especially with a really strong offense that we will have. I also think It gives the team a chance to see he is with the team before free agency so ds can see how he fits with the rest of the team to possibly trade huira in the offseason and sign dozier linger term in the offseason.

What Machado brings doesn’t have to explained and I think we pony up and give 4 prospects lead by woodruff.

Happ isn’t an ace but he is darn good. I don’t know if this will be enough or not since there aren’t a lot of pitchers on the market but I think it minlghtbget it done.

It certainly will deplete our top 30 a bit but it gives us a chance at a real run especially with our bulllpen. Thoughts?

I like to think outside of the box, but I'm pretty sure the Shaw was just practicing over there because on some huge shifts he is actually over there and the SS is the only one on that side of the field. I am pretty confident that Shaw would be horrible at 2B.

You are probably right. I also thought that maybe he was taking balls at 2B because his wrist was worse off than we thought and they wanted to save him the long throws from 3B. I know it's just a pipe dream, but I want us to make a big splash and while Machado certainly fits that bill, the whole 2-3 month rental concept scares me a bit.
