2018-07-06: Braves (Foltynewicz) at Brewers (Peralta) 7:10 PM CDT [Brewers win, 5-4; Dan Jennings puts out 7th inning fire]

Eye Black

Freeman and Markakis to start the inning I think. So probably Hader. 4th guys is switch also. Maybe he can just finish it.

Guess not, must want an extra day for Hader after the 3 innings. Which explains Barnes in that inning.

Yup, the guy who's given up runs once in 14 games is just terrible

I like Barnes just fine, but I think any RP (maybe excluding Hader) should have an extremely short leash if they put the first two runners on without recording an out.

On the other hand, we are in the middle of a long stretch without any days off and Counsell may be hoping that guys can go full innings.

Oddly Taylor Williams I would have trusted as well. He seems to put a few on often and wiggle out of it. High K rate guys I guess.

It's been a lot of fun watching Broxton play defense this last week, but the dude still can't hit a lick.

I don't know why he got back away from his stance that he used in late 2016 that he had success with.

Stop complaining about the fan. He saved you a run for now.

He didn't complain about the fan. He asked them to rule it fan interference which would have been an out and the runners wouldn't have moved up.

If Hader going 3 innings is going to mean that he won't be available the next 3 games then they should either stop using him for those long of outings or put him in the rotation. Doesn't make any sense at all to have him available in relief 25% of the time.

Not sure having Broxton pitch hit is ever a good option..........but maybe he was the best available option

Broxton has K'd 11 times in 28 AB's since being called up...

Some things never change...

To be fair the absolute best time to strike out is with nobody on, so pinch hitting with a high K but ok OBP guy with power is your best bet with a player like Broxton. You want to avoid doing it anytime he needs to move runners around.

Agree. Is it a rule that Hader should have to pitch at least two innings every appearance? I'd much rather see him pitch one inning and be availale more often than have him go two innings and say goodbye to him for the next two days.

Not true. The umpires can (and in all likelihood would have) awarded the run as they can award any bases that in their discretion they believe would have occurred without the interference.

So you're staunch that the guy with a 2.45 ERA and who had only give up a run once in his last 14 appearances is total trash and shouldn't be in MLB?

He had an ERA of 4 last year...and after tonight's performance, he's already up to 3.27...and his K/9 IP and K/BB rates are actually worse than they were last year.

Plus, his ERA was markedly worse in the second half of 2017 than the first (4.45 vs. 3.63 pre-ASB).

I see a player who I fully expect to regress, which I'll admit is confirmation bias when he lives up to my vote of no-confidence.

It's probably a bit of hyperbole to say he's not a major league pitcher, since his ERA isn't that bad...but he's a player who has me biting my nails any time he shows up in an even moderate-leverage situation.

I agree. If he's not available, they need to re-think what they're doing. If he is available to pitch tonight, he should've been pitching this inning with the lefties up to bat.

That is a good point if it had been Oliver Drake I'd be all over Counsell since I know Drake is the worst RP to ever play the game!
