2018-07-06: Braves (Foltynewicz) at Brewers (Peralta) 7:10 PM CDT [Brewers win, 5-4; Dan Jennings puts out 7th inning fire]

Eye Black
Safe but can't overturn it IMO.

For BRaun, yea his eye test has been bad the last two weeks or so. The previous stretch of him hitting hard but still getting out isn't really true right now. Lots of dribblers to 3rd and the P, and some first P popouts. This isn't really true tonight with at least two well hit balls that I remember, but generally over the last couple weeks

There's been some bad luck involved this year, but he's not even been the unluckiest guy in this lineup.

He's just not that good anymore. I know people have a hard time accepting it given what they were used to for his career, but yeah. He's on pace for 0.5 WAR after 1.5 last year. What more evidence is needed at this point? At best, he's probably a. 260/.320 hitter with a .750-.775 OPS type.

Nice, nice win tonight. Big one. That's the type of win good teams. get. Contending teams.

This team is for real this year.

Yeah. I agree 100 percent. This is a loss in the past. Can't forget how good Peralta was again. Thinking of trading this guy for pitching for crying out loud is nuts. Baseball experts drive me nuts. This kid is what we need.

Agreed. This will be just like rookie performance of Eldred. But this time we win the division.

Brewers are now 53-35 and CC needs to rethink his use of Josh Hader lmao

Was there really a reason to ride him a 3rd inning the other night? As I recall, it wasn't even his best stuff.

To have a pen arm unavailable for 3 games is kind of silly. Your starters are only unavailable for 4.

Has Houser been down 10 days yet? Pretty sure Lopez has.

Or they could throw a curve at us and cut Zagurski to bring up Barnes.

Oh stop it with that silly talk! Zag is here to fetch seeds for the pen. I really don’t know what else he’s here for lol

I assume you mean Burnes. Which would be quite a curve since he is not on 40 man roster - and we presume they need a slot for Miley

If you're any type of competitor you always want in the game. CC needs to rethink his usage of him. They have enough depth in the bullpen that he doesn't need to always pitch more than one inning per game. The more available he is, the better off the team is.

PinaMadness I'm not picking on you, just letting folks know that last time Hader pitched more than 1 inning before his 3 inning stint was June 11 when he pitched 1.2 innings. He had 6 straight appearances of 1 or fewer innings. I had thought CC had decided to limit his multi inning appearances for a while there. You have to go back to May 25 for his last 2 inning appearance.

Well, it does seem that way. Probably because we don't see him often enough to think otherwise. Having huge leads or huge deficits haven't helped either. Sometimes you just have to use him in spots you wouldn't normally use him in just to keep him sharp.

I've really liked having Hader make more appearances and pitching for fewer outs. We'll have to see if CC goes back to that or sprinkles more multi innings in there.

I’ve been saying this about Peralta all along. That would be a heck of a ride! I remember how sad I was when they were eliminated I believe during the one game in Oakland. There was a picture of somebody hanging upside down by his belt loop in the dugout in the paper (not sure if it was the Racine or one of the Milwaukee papers) the next day. That was a fun race tho trying to catch Toronto.

They still have ten games in nine days, guessing they are trying not to sever his arm over that stretch. They've won all those games without him, so whether lucky or genius, it's working.

Yes. By that logic CC has been the perfect manager this year and has not made one mistake. No need to make adjustments.

Well he would probably win manager of the year if the season ended today.

Yup, stupid vowels ;)

I get the feeling he was switched to the pen in Colorado Springs specifically with helping the ML team this season in mind.

Zaguski is an easy cut to open a spot. Asher isn't assured of keeping a spot either. Could also put Davies on the 60-day DL to open a spot if he doesn't improve soon.

I'm not even sure about that. This team has been overlooked all year that will probably only get one guy in the All Star Game despite having the best record in the NL.

They don't really deserve to have a bunch of all stars though, really. With the injuries there are probably two genuine all stars and one is at a loaded position.

Which, to me, is really a credit to the manager who would absolutely be the manager of the year if the season ended today.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

I've seen two projected NL All Star rosters with 4 or 5 Brewers, I can't remember which one had Cain, Aguilar, Hader & Jeffress. ESPN had those 4 and Yelich. Doesn't mean much but it is a view of how these guys are thought outside Milwaukee.

Edit: Nevermind on the ESPN one, they were only showing votes beyond the starters. They list too many for a 25 man roster.

Jeffress is hurt by Hader. The OF have missed too much time. Aguilar probably deserves it but 1B usually have to put a few seasons together to break into what's always a stocked offensive group. Hader is the only lock.

I think Cain is a lock if he's back in the next couple days.

Don't sleep on that play by Thames early. I was sure that ball was going to drop and put us in deep trouble before Peralta ever got going. That play changed the complexion of the game.

It’s probably not a popular opinion but I don’t care if we even have one player there. Rest up and let’s battle in the second half. The rosters should just be posted anyways. Game is meaningless. Rather watch the celebrity softball game after.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.
