2018-07-06: Braves (Foltynewicz) at Brewers (Peralta) 7:10 PM CDT [Brewers win, 5-4; Dan Jennings puts out 7th inning fire]

Eye Black
Braun is not seeing the ball well. He let a straight 93mph fastball right down the middle go right by him and he swung (as he usually does) at a pitch in the dirt. I am almost to the point where I wish he would be called out on strikes a few times rather than swinging at the garbage!

I know we have to use ERA as a baseline as there isn't much better. But something that might be a better indicator is scoreless outings. with the small amount of innings ERAs can get out of whack easily. Again, it's his second time giving up runs in like 15 innings. I think both were 3 runs though so it hurts ERA, which might give credence to the one person's point about he's kind of a guy you can tell right away if he has it or not.

That said, he has legit stuff. Upper 90s heater and big slider, normal ingredients for a good reliver. I don't see the big hate for him, there's no reason he shouldn't be able to be used. It's not like he's Drake and other guys of past years where they don't have good stuff. Key of course is the command but stuff is there.

I don't have any issues with Barnes pitching just to be clear. I do think he is sort of the Nick Pivetta of RP though. When Pivetta doesn't have it he tends to just get crushed, there is no coming back. Barnes has shown a bit of the same thing. This specific outing wasn't like that though, he was throwing strikes, he was getting the kind of contact you want from a RP, they were just getting hits. I do consider Barnes a bit of a wild card when he comes in though.

I’m wondering if he is penciling in Hader for 3 innings tomorrow because you can’t edpect Wilkerson to go more than 4,5 tops at this point - right?

I hope not. We need Hader to be available more than once every four games. It really wasn't necessary to use him for three innings against the Twins when he's more valuable to have available for the Braves.

Wilkerson was stretched out at Colorado Springs. No reason he can't supply a 100-pitch effort, provided he's effective enough to make it that far.

He was stretched out? Good to know. I just know he threw 3 up here the other day so wasn’t sure there.

Lopez , Houser, Wilkerson, Hiugera , Chuck Crim, idk who’s in the back end day to day this year and I pay attention to all the moves lol

Ding Ding! Winner!

Think you are right!

Several key hitters for them are lefties too, so a good team to get 2-3 innings from Hader vs

This staff has surprised me all year. Watch Wilkerson go 7 strong tomorrow and continue to prove pitching doubters (me included) wrong.

:laughing :rolleyes Line out to the wall, single, ground out, K but here’s come the comments.

Didn't say he's had a terrible night. Said nobody fears his bat anymore, which is true.

It was a bad at bat. Nothing more.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave
