Kind of a tough lineup to predict. Saladino had a nice 'debut' yesterday but Villar hit well too. Perez REALLY squared the ball up and I don't think Counsell wants Miller out of the lineup multiple days in a row? My wild guess is he will reward Perez with a LF start and Villar with the 2B nod. Miller at short. Thames at 1B. Braun and Aguilar get the rest.

Tough match-up for the Brewers tonight in RHP Mike Foltynewicz who has only given up more than two runs once all season (in 16 games started). Despite the stellar results he appears to be somewhat prone to short starts, so selective at-bats in an attempt to elevate his pitch count might not be the worst strategy. Looks like he has only pitched beyond the 5th inning in 6 of those 16 starts this year (although he did have a complete game versus the Nationals).

This does seem like something CC would do, I could also see Saladino on the bench with Miller at SS and Villar at 2b to maximize the LH bats.

Yeah he's really having a break out season. Walks still hurt him a bit hence the low innings per start but he's a stud.

Thames RF

Yelich CF

Aguilar 1B

Shaw 3B

Braun LF

Miller 2B

Pina C

Saladino SS

Peralta P

With no Cain available, this looks like the best lineup we can have on a given day.

I agree. Put Cain leading off, get a catcher that can hit and platoon Thames/Braun in that five spot.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

Yeah, I mention in last night's IGT that he has given up 59 hits in 89 innings and 5 runs in his last 9 starts. Gonna be a tough one. We need good Freddy tonight.

Foltynewicz has always had great stuff but took him three years at the ML level to put it together. Keep that in mind when evaluating the young pitching the Brewers have, particularly Woodruff and Peralta.

Perez MONSTER game last night, Villar made some things happen, and neither can crack the line-up today.

CC often sits guys the day/night after big offensive games, which I don't quite understand. Yup, I get it, playing the lefty righty match-ups and all that crap, but man does he tinker with the line-up more than needed.

It has to be frustrating as a player to have a great game, feel like you have things going, then BAM, bench time.

I can't comment too much on this .. but I do remember Perez talking one night with Sophia or the booth or someone and the line of questioning was how he prepares each day not knowing where he is going to play the next day (position wise) and he said something along the lines that he is told the day before if he will be starting so he knows what position, etc.

Now I'm sure that stuff changes based on injuries, hot streaks, etc ... but it sounded like Counsell preps those guys who are constantly shuffling a little bit and they know when they will be off?

They have been operating this way for some time now. I think the players know full well how CC operates and know better than to take it personally when the line up comes out (or when they are told ahead what the line up will be). They all get AB's one way or another and seem to be very cognizant that they are a team that relies on all of its parts and pieces.

They basically have 4 guys who are going to be in the lineup basically every day unless they need a rest day (Yelich, Cain, Shaw and Aguilar). Everyone else is subject to regular rotation and matchups. I think they all get that by now.

Not a good way at all for Freddy to start the game, but at least got an out on the bases. Started yesterday's game with an HBP and today's with a walk. Not surprisingly both ended up hurting.

It's easy to forget that Peralta is still a green rookie because of the couple gems he's had. This is probably the Peralta we're going to see more often than not. Somebody who will struggle with his command at times. You can't throw one hit shutouts every time.
