Final: DSL Brewers 3, DSL Rangers2 0

DSL Brewers Box Score

The Brewers post their second shutout in a row against the Rangers2 squad and move back into a tie for first place with said Rangers2. Both teams are 18-11 with 7 games remaining in the first half.

Today's stellar pitching came from Henry Medina (6.2 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 4 K), Dantel Ramirez (1.1 IP, 2 K), and debuting Wilber Diaz (1 IP, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 2 K). Diaz was truly thrown right into the fire, coming into the game in the top of the 9th and tasked with holding a 3-0 lead with 1st place hanging in the balance. He worked past that walk and hit batter to strike out the last two hitters and earn a save in his first pro game. Well done.

Ramirez meanwhile bumped his W-L to 4-0, pitched on back-to-back days which is odd for a DSL pitcher and he is just crushing DSL hitters. In 18.1 innings of work, he's allowed just 10 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 25 with a strong GB%. It's the 19-year-old righty's first pro season but with numbers like that, you have to think a move stateside yet this year is a strong possibility. C Andres Melendez had 2 of the Brewers' 3 hits and his single would be the cataylst for that winning rally. He also thew out his 12th baserunner in 26 attempts, a very solid 46%.

All 3 runs were scored in the 7th inning, which I'll let you read through below.

DSL Brewers Game Log

The young man has started at least one game at each of the four infield positions this season, and yes, young is the operative word.

Happy 17th Birthday to Venezuelan rookie Luis Silva today!

Nathan Kirby worked 4 innings in relief to get the win with one of his better days this year. Nattino Diplan and Luke Barker each worked a scoreless inning to preserve the win. Final: DSL Rangers1 9, DSL Brewers/Indians 4

DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score

The co-op team was cruising, leading 2-0 going into the bottom of the 5th. However, Indians pitchers entered the game and the game went swiftly in the other direction. The starting pitcher was the Brewers' Alexis Ramirez, who pitched 4 scoreless.

RF Bryan Connell had a big game, going 2-2 with a triple and 2 walks. Connell's OPS is up to 1.024, good for 8th best in the DSL. CF Bryan Dimas was 1-2 with a walk.

Final: AZL Brewers 7, AZL Padres1 3

AZL Brewers Box Score

The Baby Brewers scored runs in 5 of their 8 offensive innings despite only logging 7 hits on the day. C Alex Hall (2-4, 2B) and DH Kekai Rios (2-4, 2 2B) each had a pair of hits and 2B Orveo Saint went 1-2 with a triple and a walk.

Micah Bello and Jess Williams have both been out for multiple games in a row, which is conspicuous given that the Brewers are out of AZL roster room for the latest crop of draft signings.

2017 2nd round pick Caden Lemons made his 2018 debut, throwing 2 innings. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits and a walk, while striking out 2. Jesus Brea pitched a scoreless ninth and still has a 0.00 ERA after 6.1 innings of work.

AUDIO via the Rattler Radio Soundcloud: "Friday's game between the Timber Rattlers and Peoria Chiefs was 2–1 in favor of the Chiefs after the bottom of the second inning and ended in a 2–1 Peoria victory. On tonight's Papa John's Pizza Postgame Podcast, Chris Mehring & Kyle Lobner talk about the game, the opportunities, the Timber Rattlers bullpen, and some alumni that are doing some special things. Also, hear postgame comments from J.T. Hintzen, Matt Erickson, and Tristen Lutz."

Podcast opens with Carlos Herrera analysis -- he's kind of a mess this year (my word, not Chris and Kyle's). And you'll hear about David Stearns' "lighting up" about now-Sky Sox LH reliever Quintin Torres-Costa.

Box Score / Game Log

It's been a tough year not just at the bat for 20-year-old corner infielder Gabriel Garcia, but with the glove as well.

Five baserunners isn't going to get the job done most nights, it didn't here.

Box Score / Game Log

RHP Victor Castaneda's start to 2018 has been more uneven than I had hoped, the Brewers were able to sign him out of the Mexican League last summer while he was a youngster among many AAA-equivalent men. Given MLB's current freeze on Mexican League acquisitions, that signing could not have happened this year.

The H-Crew has drawn just 59 walks in 22 games, two clubs in the league have drawn over 100. Then again, two other teams have only 58.

SKY SOX, BABY CAKES SPLIT FRIDAY EVENING DOUBLEHEADER

Somehow seeing "Baby Cakes" in all caps makes it all the more wondrous; will the Brewers' guys be Grizzlies next year, or the new Las Vegas moniker, or something else?

Anyway, all the details and notes you're accustomed to from Shane Phillipps and the Sky Sox media staff at the link above, where you'll read about these:

Domingo Santana 1-for-7 on the night, a middling .760 PCL OPS in ten games.

Tidy ten pitches --

New Orleans Top of the 6th

Pitching Change: Corbin Burnes replaces Tristan Archer, batting 9th.

Isaac Galloway grounds out, shortstop Orlando Arcia to first baseman Jett Bandy.

Tomas Telis grounds out, first baseman Jett Bandy to pitcher Corbin Burnes.

Cristhian Adames grounds out to first baseman Jett Bandy.

Are we going to be worrying about Burnes' innings next year at this time because he was limited to relief the second half of 2018?
