Middle Infielders on the Market [Latest: Asdrúbal Cabrera linked to Brewers]

I don't see Villar or Broxton being trade chips for impact rentals. Prove me wrong.

I think the Mets would be willing to take Villar but it would be doing the Brewers a favor by taking his remaining salary off the books, so that might even mean a slightly higher level prospect.

Time is of the essence so DS needs to get it done sooner rather than later.

He been quite vocal about hating being dragged around the diamond. If we don't want a malcontent, he's a shortstop

Problem is, he's been really bad defensively this year.... as a 2B. For all the (potentially fair) concerns about Machado's defense when discussing him as a possible acquisition, Cabrera's defense at short could be just as bad, with less of a bat.

I was half kidding about Villar, just frustrated with his use or lack thereof.

Hitting .200 over the last month plus, underachieving consistently for 1 and a half years, and the dumb play is always right around the corner with him that costs us the game.... not a defensive plus option, not a contact hitter that can pinch hit late in games with runners on, CC doesn't pinch run him ala Carlos Gomez late in games for fear of the mistake on the bases- like stealing 3rd in the 9th down 0-4.

Just too many negatives to think of him more than the other eh options in our middle infield. He gets to play! Not sure why you're frustrated by his use, comparatively to the others-257 ABs! He hasn't made enough difference to warrant him playing 5 or 6 games a week, though.

Would prefer Dozier but anything to upgrade the middle IF at his point. The Brewers are losing games because of the holes at these positions.

Since July 1st - the middle infield contingent of Perez, Saladino, Orf and Villar are a combined 31 for 149 (.208) with an OBP of roughly .284 with 4 HRs and 13 RBIs.

Basically I'm agreeing with you that we need more offensive ability up the middle. My gut tells me that Arcia is going to get his job back soon and we will make the upgrade (Dozier) at 2b.
