Keep it rolling boys. Folty has been very tough on us his entire career and is having a really good year as is, going to be a tough one tomorrow. I have to think Perez has earned himself another start after his day today. I could see Perez in CF with Broxton on the bench, also could see Miller at SS tomorrow with Peralta starting.

I wonder what Chatwood's ERA would be if he played for a below average defense. He relies so heavily on defense with all the walks he allows, so far looking like an excellent investment by the Cubs.

Are you saying chatwood has been an excellent investment or the defense? Chatwood has been bad. Mid 4s era. Hasn't made it past 5.1 innings since April and only has one start over 6 on the season. What about that is excellent

I kinda feel like Yelich is having a down year. Is that accurate?

I think it is probably his injury at play. He is on pace for 21 HR, 19 SB, 98 R, .830 OPS over a full season not including the DL stint which made him miss over 10% of the season. He maybe didn't take the step up people thought he would be he is at least on pace for a normal year.

Not sure what people are expecting. 830 ops would be 2nd best of his career, He is on pace to tie his career high in hrs, BA and OBP right at his career average. Seems pretty good to me

And add in that he is an excellent base runner and a very good versatile outfielder

Yah, wouldn’t the defense be the good investment because Chatwood isn’t good? Without the defense he is even worse.

I’m not sure what makes Chatwood any better of an investment over another pitcher. They all get the same defense.

Agree. This is what Yelich is. Just a really good player in every facet

No complaints from me.

Chatwood has 8.1 BB/9 and an xFIP of 5.26. He has actually been quite fortunate on the year. Lester has been pretty bad as well, worst peripherals of any full season in his career yet his best ERA ever. The Cub's defense and/or luck has played a huge role in their pitching this season.

What I like about Yelich is he's like one of those glue guys teams have, like a Jon Jay (yeah I just threw up a little), except he has superior talent and skills. He does everything well, he can hit for average, take his walks, has some pop in his bat, good speed, solid defensively, he's intelligent and a great teammate. He's young and in his prime so it's possible he still has a breakout season in him. Still loving the trade for him.

This is spot on, my excellent investment comment was snide/joking...he's been dreadful and it looks like a terrible signing.

Yeah, our three best relievers are on the shelf tonight so Chacin better have the game of his life or the offense better show up and score at least seven runs.

Done. Done.

Possibly the best win of the year and we're talking about the Cubs?

Remember, we were told last weekend that the Brewers would no longer be in first place by Monday and we've been told all year that the Cubs are better. If you watch other teams, they don't have holes anywhere in their lineups, only the Brewers.

This.

Also, if you listen or read any of the National folks ..... the Seattle Mariners with something like a +25 run differential ‘will be able to sustain because good teams make their own luck’ blah blah blah.

However the Brewers will fall back to earth and won’t be able to sustain.

Cubs bias much? I know it is how it is. But by goodness it gets real old.

Other than following a handful of writers on twitter, I don't pay attention to "the national media" and ESPN's takes for the most part...and it's great. I honestly couldn't care less about the big market bias if there is one.

The Cubs have had "bad" years out of several of these starters and they're still only a game back. They are still a fairly well run organization even if they made the decision to try push their chips into the middle 2 years ago and then basically patch each hole the next 3-4 years and just pray it's enough to prop them up. It says more about the crappy/unfair financial disadvantage that we're at.

I think they've been planning to go over the luxury tax threshold in 2019 regardless, but they will probably have a little bit of money to spend if they choose to.

I'm not praising their actions...I do think that Chatwood can get back to "Chacin-esque" as a high walk 5-inning guy, but he's been on a pretty bad run here. It's true that his game is dependent on a good defense at this point, but I believe he was also known for being one of the better pitchers with RISP in previous years. His ERA basically just ballooned from a day where the ball was flying out at Wrigley this weekend.

I'd rather have them sign bad contracts than not, but I also am not going to be raising another "they've got more bad contracts than we do" banner if they win another division title.

I know the Cubs are only a game and a half behind but if you look at the MLB site or BSPN you would think the Cubs are the only team in our division with a winning record. It is crazy how the national media ignore us like they do. I realize that team from Chicago has a big following but our story would be a lot more compelling if we were in the east or western division.
