So that top 3 in the batting order manning the OF in the DSL seem to be pretty solid baseball players! Ernesto had a brutal first 20 or so ABs but since has been very good! Rodriquez is as advertised, kid can just hit! Even had his 5th double & 1st career HR today! Both those two were 4-6 on the day

Are any other Mac users getting some annoying spam when they check the minor league box scores? I've been getting this annoying ad for MacKeeper that takes over my whole web page as I'm scrolling through the box score pages. Just started a few days ago.

Final: DSL Tigers1 7, DSL Brewers 6 (11 Innings)

Both teams scored a run in the tenth, but the Tigers plated another in the 11th while the Brewers failed to as they dropped an extra innings contest to the Tigers.

DSL Brewers Box Score

Carlos Rodriguez is certainly doing everything he can to earn his way stateside. His 4-for-6 performance today included his first home run and bumped his average to .432 and his OPS to .935 on the season. Not to be outdone, Larry Ernesto also collected four hits, including his third home run of the year. Jesus Chirinos and Alwinson Valdez each picked up two hits and Oswel Leones was on base three times, collecting a pair of walks to go along with a single.

DSL Brewers Game Log

Leoner Colina got the start on the mound for the Brewers and went five innings, allowing two runs, one earned. Dantel Ramirez worked 2.1 scoreless innings of relief but did allow one inherited runner to score. Jose Alberro was tagged with the loss after allowing the two unearned runs in extras.

Final: DSL Indians/Brewers 2, DSL Pirates1 1

The Brewers co-op team picked up a win in a rare pitcher's duel in the DSL, edging the Pirates by a score of 2-1.

DSL Indians/Brewers Box Score

Ricardo Velasquez was the only Brewer to pitch in this one, going 1.1 innings in relief and giving up one run while walking a pair and also striking out two. First baseman Bryan Connell doubled, was hit by a pitch, drove in a run and scored another, while second baseman Rafael Brito added a double and a sacrifice fly.

So how about Demi O?! While power hasn’t popped off like Monte Harrison after his promotion last year but he has begun to make a loud opening statement as a prospect again! From improvements he made at both Wisconsin & so far in Carolina, he has really impressed this year & is flying way under radar

Final: Round Rock 4, Colorado Springs 3

Your only home for the game summary --

EXPRESS END SKY SOX WINNING STREAK WITH SMALL BALL

ROUND ROCK, Tex. – After winning the first three games of this series, the Sky Sox dropped a close one Monday night 4-3 to fall to 3-1 in this five-game set in Texas. While last night's contest was highlighted by numerous home runs from both squads, but the Sky Sox in particular, tonight's game's scoring was marked by small ball throughout.

After two scoreless frames to start the game, the Sky Sox scored first via small ball in the top of the third. Andres Blanco led off the inning with a single, followed quickly by a Dylan Moore single. Shane Opitz then flew out to advance both runners up 90 feet, and with Blanco now standing on third, Brett Phillips also flew out to score Blanco and give Colorado Springs a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning Round Rock tied up the game, despite two quick outs. Hunter Cole became the Express' first baserunner of the inning after drawing out a seven-pitch, two out walk, and in the next at-bat former big league Brewer Juan Centeno hit his fourth double of the year to tie the game at one run apiece.

After the Sky Sox went three up and three down in the top of the fifth, Nick Ramirez came into the game on the mound for the Sky Sox in the bottom half of the inning. Colorado Springs' starter Brandon Woodruff finished the day with one run on six hits with one walk and one strikeout through the first four innings of tonight's game. Ramirez gave up a single to the first batter he faced when Drew Robinson singled to right, with Robinson stealing second with two outs to find himself in scoring position for Willie Calhoun. Calhoun then doubled to score Robinson and give Round Rock a one-run lead.

In the very next inning, that lead was extended further. Former Brewer farmhand Nick Noonan and Cole kicked off the sixth with a pair of singles, advancing to second and third on a Centeno sacrifice bunt. Hanser Alberto then hit a sacrifice fly to plate Noonan and make it 3-1. Robinson then hit an RBI single to make it 4-1 Round Rock.

After two more scoreless innings, the game went to the ninth with Round Rock still leading 4-1. Domingo Santana led off the ninth for the Sky Sox with a double, giving a potential Colorado Springs rally life. Jacob Nottingham then hit an RBI single to make it a 4-2 ballgame. Christian Bethancourt struck out for the first out of the inning to bring Blanco to the plate. Blanco hit a double to put the tying runs in scoring position, with the go-ahead run at the plate in the form of Moore. Moore hit a deep sacrifice fly to right field to score Nottingham from third and make it a one run game. Opitz, who was 0-for-3 on the day at that point, came to the plate with Blanco still on second. A wild pitch in the at-bat let Blanco move up to third, and Opitz drew a walk to put runners on the corners for Phillips. Phillips popped out however to end the game, giving the Express their first win of the series, 4-3.

The Sky Sox are on the road in the midst of a five-game set against the Express in Round Rock, before returning home on Independence Day to host the New Orleans Baby Cakes for five games.

Tuesday's Preview: In the fifth and final game of this series and this road trip, the Sky Sox are sending righty Adrian Houser to the mound to square off against Round Rock's southpaw David Hurlbut. Houser is looking for his second win whereas Hurlbut is looking for his third.

Orf Hour: On Monday the Brewers announced that they selected the contract of the 28-year-old. He was recalled in place for infielder Nick Franklin who was transferred to the 60-day disabled list. Orf, a native of Wentzville, MO, was originally signed by Milwaukee as a non-drafted free agent on June 14, 2013 out of Baylor University.

Orf is currently in his fifth full season with Milwaukee and was recently selected as a Triple-A All-Star reserve infielder, marking his first career selection as a mid-season All-Star. The two-time MiLB.com organization All-Star is currently leading the Sky Sox in hits (83), runs (51), doubles (18), walks (36), games played (74), total bases (125), and hit-by-pitch (15) while tied for first in RBI (39). Overall, he is batting .307 with a .412 on-base percentage and is second in the league in stolen bases (20).

Defensively, Orf has appeared in 39 games at second base, seven at third base, 22 at shortstop, and eight in the outfield while only recording four errors total.

The two home run game by Nate Orf Sunday night marks the second time that Orf has homered twice in a game in a Sky Sox uniform. The other instance came almost one year ago, on July 2nd, 2017 at Werner Park in Omaha. Orf becomes the third Sky Sox player to have a two-homer game at the Dell Diamond. The other two instances came during Rockies affiliation, both in 2014 (by Jason Pridie on April 10th, 2014 and by Dustin Garneau on July 10th, 2014). The three runs through the fifth gave him 204 regular season runs scored, jumping over Matt Miller and Jason Bates into sole possession of 8th place in career runs scored (regular season) in a Sky Sox uniform. The double in the Sunday contest was his 69th regular season double with the Sky Sox, tying him with Edgard Velasquez Clemente for 13th all time in doubles. The ten total bases through the fifth gave him 469 total bases, jumping over Derrick Gibson and Eric Young, Jr. for 19th place in career total bases (regular season). The three extra base hits by Orf through the fifth inning gave him 103 extra base hits in his Sky Sox career, tying him with Jayson Nix for 21st on the career extra base hits list. The single by Nate Orf in the 9th inning, his 4th hit of the night, gave him 316 regular season hits in his career with the Sky Sox, tying him with Tim Wheeler for 16th place on the Sky Sox career hits list. (Next up in 15th: Jim Tatum, with 318 regular season hits.)

Final: Helena 5, Great Falls 4

Fry Sizzles As Brewers Walk Off Voyagers

Helena Gets Third Walkoff Win Of 2018

By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers

cut.jpg

Great Falls, MT - Up 4-3 with two outs in the top of the ninth, the Helena Brewers lead disappeared as three straight Great Falls singles knotted the game up at four. It would be the Brewers that had the last laugh, as with two out and nobody on, Chad McClanahan doubled, and David Fry then followed with a base hit to left center, easily scoring McClanahan to give the Brewers the win. Helena has walked off Great Falls twice in 2018.

Great Falls jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to a two run first inning blast from Lenyn Sosa. It was the first home run that starter Max Lazar had allowed in four starts.

Lazar locked in from there, and Helena got him a run back in the third thanks to a Je'Von Ward RBI single. Ward with the hit became the first Brewer to drive in a run in three straight games.

Great Falls extended the lead back to two in the fifth, as Ian Dawkins reached on a Jean Carmona error, and scored on a Sosa double. In the sixth, Roberto Delgado came in and ran into trouble, as a walk and a double put runners at second and third with nobody out. The infield came in, and Romy Gonzalez grounded out to second for the first out. Then third baseman Nick Egnatuk made the play of the day, fielding a grounder from Amado Nunez, tagging the lead runner Corey Zangari leaning off of third, and then fired the ball to first for the inning ending double play.

Helena got a run back in the bottom of the sixth, as Egnatuk brought home David Fry with a ground out, cutting the deficit to a single run. In the seventh though, the tide turned for Helena, as Bryan Torres started the frame with a single, and pinch runner Yeison Coca got to third thanks to a one out infield single from Jesus Lujano and a throwing error from Sosa. Ward then scorched a ball that shortstop Ramon Beltre couldn't knock down, rolling into left field for a hit and tying the game at three. Jean Carmona then blooped a ball down the left field line for a double, plating Lujano and giving Helena their first lead.

Kody Rock (W, 1-0) entered and got the side in order in the eighth, and then retired the first two in the ninth. Amado Nunez kept the game alive with a single, and Gunnar Troutwine followed with one of his own, moving pinch runner Jay Estes to third. Ramon Beltre then hit a chopper to the right side of the infield that slipped through, scoring Estes to tie the game. Rock then got Dawkins to ground out, ending the inning.

Jack Maynard (L,0-1) got the first two to start the ninth, and was a strike away from sending the game to extras. Chad McClanahan took a two strike pitch and corked it into the right field corner for a double. That set the table for David Fry, who took a meatball and pounded it into the left center field gap, scoring McClanahan for the win.

The Brewers look to sweep the Voyagers in the brief two game series, sending Justin Bullock to the hill tomorrow. Great Falls will counter with Jason Bilous. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM MT.

Helena Box Score

Now playing first base almost full time, Chad McClanahan appears to be a lot more comfortable at the plate in Helena this summer. After scuffling to a .234/.339/.315 slash last year (his first half was especially brutal), the big 20-year-old has improved to .323/.413/.538 this year through about 75 PAs. Still 3/4 of the Pioneer League season to go, but certainly promising.

I'm not the biggest Je'Von Ward fan, but worth noting that now as he's closing in on 200 PAs as a pro, he's hitting .291. Not much power yet from his 6'5, 190 pound frame but you'd think that will change in the future. Have to remember he was one of the youngest players in the draft last year and he's still just 18.

David Fry was the offensive hero and is certainly hitting like a college senior should do in Helena, but we'll see if the catching part of his game works out. Since re-donning the tools of ignorance, Fry has 5 passed balls in 48 defensive innings. He's caught 1 of 4 potential base stealers.

Helena Game Log

Don't give up on an inning:

Helena Bottom of the 9th

Defensive Substitution: Adam McGinnis replaces Jimmy Galusky, batting 8th, playing catcher.

Pitching Change: Jack Maynard replaces Drew Weston.

Je'Von Ward strikes out swinging.

Jean Carmona strikes out swinging.

Chad McClanahan doubles (6) on a line drive to right fielder Alex Destino.

David Fry singles on a line drive to left fielder Logan Sowers. Chad McClanahan scores.

Chad McClanahan now with a .952 OPS. Still only 20 years old. OBP almost .100 higher than his BA so he's taking walks.

Back on the prospect radar.

Domingo Santana with a .881 OPS and .419 OBP in his short stint at AAA so far. [sarcasm]But he's struggling and can't hit AAA pitching... or so I was told.[/sarcasm]
