2018-07-02: Twins (Gibson) at Brewers (Suter) 7:10 PM CDT [Brewers win, 6-5 in 10 innings -- Miller walk-off walk]

Yeah I don't get the whining about these shifts. Just don't hit it there!

It sounds nuts that people want a rule to prevent teams from standing where a hitter hits the ball more times than not.

Aguilar will need another day off now with all that exercise.

announcers keep saying he is 300 lbs. He runs good for being so big. But yea, he will prolly get another day off rest now. We have plenty of minor leaguers on the team that can fill in.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see 330ish on the scale from him. He’s a big dude.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Only the SS on the left side of the infield, with 4 deep in the OF, and Thames tries to pull an outside pitch.

lol

If I was getting these shifts on me, I'd be practicing bunting every damn day during batting practice.

I've had this discussion many times with friends. I don't get why everyone not named Judge, Stanton, Trout, etc are not bunting every time a shift is applied.

In Thames case, hypothetically if he is planning on getting 45-50 XBH this year ... that is about 1 per every 9 at bats or so? If he were to bunt himself on at a decent success rate, he'd eclipse the total bases he might take away from himself in those situations... but two things would happen 1) the opposing team would lighten or eliminate the shift against him or continue to grant him first base and 2) he would be giving the best hitters in our lineup more at bats with men on base.

I don't get why more guys don't bunt their way out of that shift. I get that a guy like Joey Votto is paid to smash baseballs ... and opposing teams are willing to give him first base. But Eric Thames? Take the base buddy. Keep the lines moving. Put some stress pitches on the opposing pitcher. Etc.

can we at least start counting all of these wait to decide if you are going to challenge stoppages in the overall replay time? More time is spent every game trying to decide if you will challenge than plays being reviewed. Where did this idea even come from, they don't do it in football.

Suter doing Suter things. Let him finish the order a 2nd time then yank him? His 3rd time through has been the problem it seems.

I don't have any stats to verify this but I assume Suter's ERA his 3rd time through an order is his achilles?

Anyone know Suters stats the past 10 starts or so? He’s been really solid even though he doesn’t fit the mold of what dominate should look like.

google it.

Ha...so what did people do with this sort of question in the 80s? Did people save their newspaper for a few weeks? Somehow go to the library to look at past box scores, just call your friend with a good memory? Wait until the next season to buy the baseball almanac? Never know?

One positive is I still think Suter is going to be great in a late season long relief role if the Brewers eventually have enough healthy starters to move him to that role.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

The previous two starts before last game he went 7 innings with 2 and 1 runs given up. He's been pretty low on our list of problems this year, if anything he's been a huge help considering how poorly Davies, Anderson have done, no Nelson all year. And f I remember right last game he gave up nothing through 4 before all went to heck
